Position Summary
The Claims Adjuster, Renters Insurance, is responsible for the investigation, evaluation, and resolution of renters insurance claims in accordance with policy provisions, regulatory requirements, and company standards. This role handles claims from first notice of loss through settlement while delivering a high-quality customer experience and maintaining strong file quality and compliance.
Responsibilities
• Oversee and manage all aspects of insurance claims, including a high volume of tenant liability matters, ensuring timely and accurate incident reporting and investigations, including opportunities for subrogation.• Manage a desk of renters’ insurance claims from first notice of loss to closure.• Investigate claims by: • Interviewing policyholders and parties involved.• Reviewing policies, coverage, and endorsements.• Analyzing documentation, photos, estimates, and reports.• Determine coverage, liability, and damages in accordance with policy language and state regulations.• Evaluate and settle claims within assigned authority levels.• Issue payments, denials, or reservation of rights letters as appropriate.• Maintain accurate, timely, and well-documented claim files.• Coordinate with vendors as needed (e.g., contractors, appraisers, subrogation partners) • Identify and escalate potential fraud indicators.• Meet or exceed claims KPIs, including cycle time, severity, file quality, and customer satisfaction.• Ensure compliance with all applicable Department of Insurance regulations and internal guidelines.• Effectively collaborate with other departments, including 1st party property claims managers, and Facilities.• Represent RPM Living in a professional manner at all times. Consistently maintain a courteous and professional attitude when dealing with residents, coworkers, and the public.• Utilize and maintain file documentation in the company’s risk management information system.
Education and Experience
• Knowledge of renter’s insurance, tenant liability, and property events that might warrant an insurance company to be notified of a potential claim.• Knowledge of insurance claims processes and risk assessment methodologies.• Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, risk management information systems, and property management systems such as Yardi.• Ability to handle conflicting requests and competing priorities.• Skilled in negotiation.• Ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Risk Management, Insurance, or related field. Experience may substitute for education.• Two years of experience in claims management or risk management roles.• Multifamily experience preferred.• Associate in Claims (AIC), Senior Claims Law Associate (SCLA), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), or other risk management certification preferred.
Qualifications
Physical Requirements:
• May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time.• Must be able to read documents, computer screens, and data.• Must be able to hear and understand verbal communications in person and over the phone or computer.• May occasionally be required to lift or carry items such as files or office supplies weighing up to 15 pounds.• Must be able to operate a computer, keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
Work Environment:
• This is an onsite role requiring the associate to work in our corporate office five days a week.• The office is an open setting which may include bright lights, constant noises and distractions.• This role may require overnight travel as required to participate in mediations, depositions, and trials or for continuing education classes.
