Civil/Structural Design Engineer, PE


Summary: Can lead a team of five or more people in the execution of projects or the performance of services in the Civil/Structural Department. Provides technical and administrative leadership.Can be directly accountable for technical accuracy, meeting schedules, and controlling man-hour budgets.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  1. Civil/Structural engineering calculations.


  1. Civil/Structural engineering plans, design, and layout.


  1. Civil/Structural project specifications.


  1. Civil/Structural engineering portion of project proposals.


  1. Civil/Structural engineering portion of project cost estimates.


  1. Supervision and mentorship of less experienced engineers.


  1. Work on civil/structural projects in a support role.


  1. Research and identify new design requirements to support senior engineers.


Essential Functions:


Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:


  1. Perform structural design and analysis calculations using governing codes and standards, engineering formulas, skills, and experience.


  1. Layout and details portions of projects using schematic layout by project lead engineer. May be assigned responsibility for schematic or conceptual layouts when qualified.


  1. Provide drawing for own designs and produce sketches to incorporate in drawings by Designers/Drafters.


  1. Research design options and document findings for project lead engineer.


  1. Review shop drawings.


  1. Assume the lead engineer’s role on assigned projects.


  1. May serve as Project Engineer and as a designated Client contact on smaller, less complex projects.


  1. Develop probable construction cost estimates for his/her projects within the department.


  1. May direct and supervise other Designers/Drafters activities.


  1. Coordinate work with other disciplines such as architectural, mechanical, electrical, etc.


  1. Handle routine contract administration.


  1. Use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering design documents.


  1. Attend and participate in meetings.


  1. Perform field activities such as observe and record existing field conditions, take and verify measurements within project area.


  1. Organize, draft, and coordinate technical documents.


  1. Capable and experienced in managing and performing projects in a fast-paced environment.


Education and Experience Requirements:


  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, and over ten years of experience with advance knowledge in civil and/or structural engineering, obtainable usually through a combination of experience and continuing education; or


  • Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering, and 0 to 2 years of experience with advanced technical knowledge in civil and/or structural engineering, obtainable usually through a combination of experience and continuing education; or


  • Equivalent combination of education, training and experience.


Qualifications:


  • StaadPro or equivalent finite element analysis software.


  • Experience in working with multiple discipline projects with Steel Making, BioProcess and/or Petrochemical Clients.


  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Suite.


  • Licensed SE, PE or EIT is preferred.
