The Opportunity:

Tetra Tech is adding a highly skilled Civil Construction Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA/QC) Professional to support renewable energy construction projects, with a focus on solar and battery energy storage (BESS) installations.

This role is responsible for ensuring that all civil construction activities meet quality standards, regulatory requirements, approved design documents, and client expectations throughout the project lifecycle. The ideal candidate will proactively prevent defects, ensure compliance, and maintain consistency in materials, workmanship, and construction processes.

This position requires strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects across various locations.

Location: Glen Allen, VA (Field-Based / Travel Required)

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop and implement QA/QC plans and protocols aligned with industry standards, codes, and project specifications
  • Monitor and inspect construction activities to ensure compliance with:
    • Design drawings
    • Specifications
    • Contract requirements
  • Review project documentation (drawings, specifications, contracts) for quality compliance
  • Conduct site inspections and audits, identifying deficiencies and recommending corrective actions
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and contractors to resolve quality issues
  • Prepare and maintain QA/QC documentation, including:
    • Inspection reports
    • Checklists
    • Nonconformance reports (NCRs)
  • Provide training and guidance to site personnel on quality standards and best practices
  • Participate in project meetings to review quality performance and drive improvements
  • Serve as the primary client contact for quality-related matters, providing updates and addressing concerns
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Renewable Energy, or related field (preferred)
  • 10+ years of experience in civil construction and/or QA/QC roles
  • Experience supporting large-scale construction projects, preferably in solar energy
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Construction processes, materials, and quality standards
    • Solar PV systems and construction practices
    • Local, state, and federal regulations
    • OSHA safety standards and compliance requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects across geographic regions
  • Proficiency with:
    • AutoCAD
    • Microsoft Project, Excel, and QA/QC tracking tools
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional QA/QC certification and/or PMP certification
  • Experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
  • Experience leading QA/QC programs on renewable energy construction projects

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work on active construction sites in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work extended hours, including up to 50 hours per week as needed

Work Environment / Travel:

  • Field-based role across active construction sites
  • Exposure to outdoor environments and construction conditions
  • Frequent travel may be required depending on project locations
  • Interaction with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams

Compensation:

Pay commensurate with experience.

Pay Range: $150,000-$180,000 annually

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience and demonstrated work experience in the above role; skills, certifications, and competencies that align to the specified role; geographic location; and education, as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
