As our new Cisco Network Infrastructure Engineer you will provide network engineering services to the statewide enterprise network and all State agencies. You will act as a subject matter expert providing design, implementation, and support of highly complex networks including LAN/WAN, Wireless, data center, cloud technologies.

The position acts as the technical lead for the planning, testing, administering, and implementing network solutions and establishing best practices standards. The position makes decisions and provides detailed input that affects the State core network and agencies' network infrastructure.


The position performs network architecture design and implementation, which impacts all supported agencies and their locations across Colorado. The position establishes network technology standards to be used within the State network infrastructure. The position interfaces with the network operations, security operations, and telecommunications teams to provide network services to customers. The position supports the strategic interface to other entities, including state, federal, and local agencies; private sector groups; and the public.


Some of the day to day tasks include:


Designing, configuring, administering, and deploying mission critical network hardware and applications to provide network as a services (NaaS) for State agencies to include wireless, software defined access and wide area networks.


Maximize network performance by monitoring performance, troubleshooting network problems, addressing security concerns, responding to and resolving outages, scheduling upgrades, and collaborating with internal and external partners on network optimization.


Providing subject matter expertise on network design, solution, and implementation for new network projects.


Analyzing performance and comparative costs of products to determine the most cost effective solution.


Providing recommendations and solutions to leadership.


Partnering with customers and vendors to clarify rationale for technical decisions and concepts so they can understand the basis for the decisions.

A wide salary range is posted for this position and any job offer is based upon a salary analysis to comply with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. The salary analysis considers relevant experience, education, certifications, and state seniority as compared to others doing substantially similar work. While most salary offers are made within the posted range, occasionally an offer is made below or above the posted range based upon this salary analysis.

This is a skills-based job announcement. The required minimum qualifications and/or education (if substituting for the proven experience, knowledge, and skills), are as follows:

Minimum Qualifications:

A minimum of five (5) years of hands-on professional experience designing, implementing, testing, and documenting complex Cisco based network solutions.


Expertise in Software-Defined Access, Cisco DNAC, and Catalyst technologies is highly preferable.



Substitutions:

Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis, but cannot completely substitute for these qualifications.

Training or Certification related to the work assigned to the position will be assigned credit towards substitution for experience and/or education, but cannot completely substitute for these qualifications.

If the minimum qualifications include a degree requirement, additional appropriate paid or unpaid experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.


Preferred Qualifications:


Three (3) years professional engineering experience in network design, architecture, and implementation.


The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, and Cisco products, and will work on planning and improving enterprise network solutions.


Cisco Professional and/or Expert certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or Cisco Certified Internet Expert (CCIE).


Professional networking experience with wireless technologies.


Professional networking experience with Cisco Identity Service Engine (ISE) application.


Professional networking experience with Cisco DNAC.


Professional networking experience with data center technologies.


Professional networking experience with Software-Defined Access technologies.


Professional networking experience with scripting and automation.


Experience in Agile/Scrum Methodologies or Agile/Scrum Methodologies certification(s).



Conditions of Employment:

OIT candidates and employees must comply with any screening procedures in place at state entity locations where they might be required to perform work.

A pre-employment background check will be conducted as part of the selection process.

Positions supporting some agencies such as the Department of Corrections and the Department of Public Safety will also require a pre-employment drug test.

This position may require travel within the specified geographic area, and to locations across the state as needed.

This position may require on-call duties as needed by the position.

While candidates from out of state will be considered for this role, the candidate selected for the position must relocate and reside in Colorado on the first day of their new position. A reasonable timeframe for relocation will be established on an individual basis, while considering business needs, and determining a start date.
