We are searching for a Child Life Activity Coordinator — someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you'll provide a comprehensive play program with a focus on ensuring opportunities for normal growth and development, normalization/mastery of the environment, peer to peer support by encouraging family and peer interaction, and healing experiences through play.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Normalizes the hospital environment and supports developmental needs
Prioritizes patient play/activity needs through daily report or verbal consults as evidenced by unit leadership team observation
Provides developmentally appropriate environments and activities for patients of all ages served within the activity coordinator’s area
Develops play-based programming based on the patient population and facilitates planned normalization activities
Encourages socialization and interaction between patients and families
Maintains the concept of the activity areas as ‘safe’, welcoming, and supportive places by ensuring that medical procedures/examinations occur outside of the activity area and by encouraging self-expression and interaction between patients and families
Encourages caregiver involvement in the patient’s daily activities by extending invitations to activity rooms and informing caregivers of resources available
Plans a weekly/monthly calendar of developmentally appropriate special events
Provides developmentally appropriate activities at the bedside
Maintains a safe, clean, and well-organized activity room environment
Trains and supervises volunteers
Participates in departmental responsibilities
Establishes and maintains effective interdepartmental relations
If assigned to the Volunteer Dog Program (aka Bow Wow Buddies), will be responsible for the following duties
Coordination and execution of the Bow Wow Buddies Program, including development and adherence to protocol/criteria for the program
Maintaining infection control and safety protocols to ensure compliance with the hospital’s Animal Visitation Policy
Skills & Requirements
Bachelor's Degree required
1 year Experience working with children inside or outside of a hospital environment required
