Chief Operating Officer

Insights About the Role

The Go-Forward Mandate: Chief Operating Officer

As the platform prepares for its Q2 2026 beta launch and the founders target a Series A funding event within the coming year, requiring a world-class day-to-day operator to drive execution. The three founders are currently managing the vision, product, and capital strategy, but they urgently require a Chief Operating Officer (or a highly capable VP of Operations ready to earn the c-suite promotion) to establish the company's operational backbone so the founders can eventually transition to full-time focus post-Series A.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Bulletproof Onboarding & Customer Success: The immediate priority is standing up a flawless, 50-step implementation and onboarding process for new communities and property managers. You will architect the post-sale customer journey, ensuring zero friction during cutover.
  • Sales Operations & Execution: Capitalize on the warm leads generated by the founders' elite networks. When the founders source an enterprise client, you must be the proactive force that grabs the reins, closes the loop, and integrates the client without needing constant direction.
  • Team Building: Lead the charge in scaling the internal team to 12–15 employees over the next 12–18 months, hiring and managing customer success representatives, sales engineers, and accounting personnel.
  • General Administration: Oversee general accounting, operational KPIs, and reporting to ensure the company remains incredibly lean while achieving terminal velocity for its Series A metrics.

The Ideal Profile & Cultural Fit:

  • The "Builder" Unicorn: You must be a relentless self-starter who values "agency over title." You do not wait for orders; you identify the 400,000 tasks required to scale a startup and execute them proactively.
  • Domain Overlap: Experience in residential real estate operations, property management, prop-tech, or complex B2B SaaS implementation is highly preferred.
  • Process Obsessed: You must bring deep process-orientation and organizational rigor to a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Culture Fit: The founding team is direct, aggressive, and highly collaborative. They operate with zero ego and prefer a "loose" environment where you can grab a beer or play a round of poker or golf together. However, this is a true early-stage startup—you must be comfortable receiving a business-critical phone call at 10:00 PM or 8:00 AM on a Saturday.
  • Location: Open to remote, but there is a strong preference for candidates in or around Wichita, Kansas, where the initial corporate headquarters is located. Otherwise a week or so a month in Wichita would be fine.

Key Role Requirements (The Must-Haves)

  • Highly Relevant Domain Expertise: Significant background in residential real estate operations, property management, prop-tech, or commercial development. Brings functional mastery to the table so there is zero learning curve regarding the target market's needs.
  • "Agency Over Title" (The Ultimate Self-Starter): A relentless driver who values execution over hierarchy and does not care about titles. Proactively identifies the 400,000 tasks required to scale an early-stage startup and independently attacks them without waiting for orders.
  • Process Obsessed & Onboarding Mastery: Brings deep organizational rigor to a fast-moving environment. Proven track record of building and owning a flawless, 50-step implementation and customer success process. Capable of seamlessly transitioning a closed deal through setup, fund collection, and post-launch follow-up.
  • Sales Operations & GTM Execution: Able to capitalize on warm, enterprise-level leads generated by the founders' networks. When handed a major prospect (e.g., an enterprise property manager with 50 communities), this leader acts as a proactive force to grab the reins, close the loop, and integrate the client without needing handholding.

The Nice-to-Haves

  • Rails Savvy: Since their proprietary payment rails will inevitably be the largest driver of revenue growth and net revenue retention, prior experience with PII, payments, and security would be a big plus.
  • High-Potential "Step-Up" Candidate: A highly capable VP of Operations or Senior Director of Operations who is hungry, ready to take the next step into a true COO role; Prepared to act like an owner.
  • Geographically Desirable/Movable: While open to remote candidates, there is a strong preference for a leader based in or around Wichita, Kansas, to anchor the initial corporate headquarters.

Personality/Cultural Characteristics

  • Aggressive & Direct Execution: A "go-getter" with a proactive, direct communication style. Not overly corporate or hierarchical and has no problem calling others out or being called out to ensure rapid progress.
  • Fits with These Founders: Operates with zero ego and refuses to act like the smartest person in the room. Must be "comfortable in their own skin" down-to-earth person who genuinely wants to collaborate and hang out with and build the team—whether that means grabbing a beer, playing a round of golf, or sitting down for a game of poker after work.
  • Startup Attitude & Hustle: Thrives in a lean, dynamic startup environment and operates at warp speed. Unfazed by chaos and willing to get their hands dirty. Fully embraces an "always-on" mentality and is perfectly comfortable taking a business-critical phone call at 10:00 PM or 8:00 AM on a Saturday.
