A well-established, mission-driven nonprofit organization is seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to provide operational leadership and execution across a diverse portfolio of community impact programs. This organization has a longstanding history of serving local communities through affordable housing initiatives, financial empowerment programs, workforce development, lending services, and neighborhood revitalization efforts.


Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the COO will oversee day-to-day operations, program execution, administrative systems, compliance, financial coordination, and staff leadership. This highly visible role will partner closely with the CEO and leadership team to translate strategic vision into operational excellence while building the infrastructure necessary to support continued growth and impact.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide operational leadership across multiple program areas, including housing, lending, workforce development, community initiatives, and economic development.
  • Oversee organizational systems, processes, and workflows to improve efficiency, accountability, and scalability.
  • Lead and develop a team of program and administrative professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, performance, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with finance leadership on budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, audits, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure compliance with grant requirements, regulatory obligations, organizational policies, and risk management practices.
  • Develop and implement operational procedures, internal controls, and performance metrics.
  • Support strategic planning, new program development, and organizational growth initiatives.
  • Serve as a key representative with funders, government agencies, community partners, and other stakeholders.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in nonprofit operations, community development, housing, lending, financial services, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated success building systems, improving processes, and leading cross-functional teams.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets and organizational performance.
  • Exceptional communication, project management, and organizational skills.
  • Passion for mission-driven work and community impact.
