Job Summary and Responsibilities

As Chief Medical Officer, you will serve as the senior physician executive responsible for providing leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight of physician services and medical staff administration across two hospitals, including a 25-bed critical access hospital. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, you will play a key role in strengthening alignment between hospital leadership and the medical staff, driving clinical quality, patient safety, and overall performance.

In this role, you will partner closely with the Chief Nursing Officer and executive team to advance multidisciplinary approaches to care, while establishing and implementing standards, policies, and best practices across both sites to ensure consistency and excellence in clinical outcomes. You will also serve as a key liaison to system leadership, aligning local priorities with broader organizational strategy, and as a visible leader within the community, providing guidance on medical practice, physician engagement, and emerging healthcare trends.

Additional responsibilities of the CMO include

  • Establishing and implementing standards and policies within each hospital and across hospitals to ensure quality of medical care.
  • Working closely with the Group Chief Medical Officer and CME to meet operating group and system-wide strategies, goals, objectives and standards.
  • Serving as the primary community resource to all hospital communities and provides advice and counsel to administrators on medical and administration matters related to medical practice and current affairs.
Job Requirements

In addition to bringing humankindness to the workplace each day, qualified candidates will need the following:

  • Five years experience in delivery of physician services and medical staff administration with proven success in progressive responsibility in healthcare leadership
  • Medical staff relations, quality measurement credentialing and previous medical management experience is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission, managed care, and health policy is essential with proven success in effective integration of medical management
  • Board certified in an approved clinical specialty required while in clinical practices
  • Doctorate in Medicine, Emergency Medicine Preferred
  • Masters in Business Administration
  • MD or DO, DR-Current and unrestricted license to practice medicine in applicable state

Physical Requirements-Medium Work - (Exert up to 50lbs force occasionally, and/or up to20lbs frequently, and/or up to 10lbs constantly)
