Chief Deputy District Attorney - Organized Crime

Performs a variety of professional legal and supervisory functions to direct the work activities of a unit within the Office of the District Attorney.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES: This is the second supervisory level class within the deputy district attorney series; it is distinguished from the higher level Assistant District Attorney by the lack of responsibility to supervise and manage several units within the office.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:(The following essential job functions and examples of duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive; positions assigned to this class may not perform all of the duties listed.)
  • Directs the work activities of assigned Organized Crime Unit personnel. Acts as a resource on legal reasoning, statute interpretation, and trial tactics; directs the formulation of plea agreements in complex COCCA, wiretap, narcotics, and murder cases. Conducts annual performance reviews and makes recommendations with regard to salary adjustments/exceptional performance pay. Acts as a mentor/coach to improve/refine subordinates' trial skills and legal knowledge. Monitors division docket calendars to ensure coverage for deputies in trial and to minimize issues surrounding speedy trial. Provides Search Warrant reviews for surrounding law enforcement agencies.
  • Acts as lead prosecutor on murder investigations, COCCA, pattern crimes, and wiretap cases.
  • Proficient in Grand Jury presentations as well as indictments.
  • Dependant upon assignment, may provide statistical data to reflect unit work activities as a basis for personnel and/or materials requests through the budget process.
  • Acts as a member of the selection committee to interview and recommend attorney candidates for hire.
  • Performs any and all of the duties associated with a District Court Deputy.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • Graduation from law school as provided under Rule 205.1 of the Colorado Rules of Civil Procedure.
  • Senior Deputy District Attorney or above required.
  • Significant demonstrated experience in the specialty area of this position in Pattern Crime is preferred

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:
  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Colorado.
  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License upon hire, with complying insurance. Review of motor vehicle record is required at time of hire and periodically throughout employment.
  • This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check including fingerprinting through a national database.
