Job Title: Chemist II
Job Description
The Chemist II will support analytical laboratory operations and testing for EPA and AIHA accredited programs, with a focus on occupational hygiene and environmental analyses. This role requires hands-on experience with advanced analytical techniques, a strong quality and compliance mindset, and a commitment to generating reliable, high-quality data that supports both laboratory and broader business objectives.
Responsibilities
- Perform analytical testing in support of occupational hygiene and environmental laboratory programs.
- Analyze, document, and troubleshoot assays using HPLC, LC/MS, GC, GC/MS, ELISA, and related analytical techniques.
- Develop, optimize, validate, and verify analytical methods to support laboratory programs and new initiatives.
- Conduct analysis of large molecule samples and complex matrices as required by project needs.
- Maintain compliance with quality systems, standard operating procedures, and accreditation policies for EPA and AIHA programs.
- Ensure data integrity through accurate documentation, thorough review, and clear reporting of analytical results.
- Participate in investigations, deviation assessments, root cause analyses, and corrective and preventive action (CAPA) activities.
- Collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders across scientific, quality, and operational functions to meet project timelines and objectives.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing laboratory efficiency, data quality, and operational excellence.
- Support the evaluation and application of innovative tools, including generative AI, where appropriate and compliant with quality and regulatory expectations.
- Engage in effective communication and documentation practices to ensure traceability, transparency, and alignment with quality and accreditation requirements.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Environmental Science, Occupational Hygiene, or a related scientific discipline; advanced degree preferred.
- Experience in occupational hygiene, environmental analysis, or a related analytical laboratory environment.
- Demonstrated experience with one or more of the following platforms: liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, gas chromatography, ELISA, and large molecule analysis.
- Working knowledge of GxP principles and quality systems management.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills in a laboratory setting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and a demonstrated commitment to compliance and data integrity.
- Scientific rigor and analytical excellence, with a focus on producing high-quality, reliable data.
- Quality and compliance mindset, with accountability for following procedures and meeting accreditation standards.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a cross-functional environment and contribute to team goals.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in a regulated laboratory or quality-driven environment.
- Familiarity with method development, optimization, and validation in an analytical laboratory context.
- Exposure to data analysis tools, laboratory automation, or emerging technologies that support laboratory efficiency.
- Experience applying generative AI tools in a scientific or operational context, in alignment with quality and compliance requirements.
- Continuous improvement orientation, with a drive to identify and implement process enhancements.
- Effective documentation skills to support traceability, audits, and accreditation requirements.
- Openness to relocate for the role, if applicable.
Work Environment
This position is based 100% on-site in a laboratory environment, with approximately 75% of the time spent performing hands-on lab work and the remainder potentially supporting quality-related activities. The role involves working with advanced analytical instrumentation such as HPLC, LC/MS, GC, GC/MS, and ELISA systems, as well as handling large molecule samples and complex matrices.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of North Chicago, IL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $34.00 - $36.00/hr.
