Job Description

We are seeking a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to join our team on a major construction initiative for a new campus in Lebanon, IN. This is a full-time, 6-month contract-to-hire position, offering 40-50+ hours per week with the potential for overtime. The role involves performing daily field inspections of structural steel welding activities, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct visual inspections of structural steel welds in accordance with AWS D1.1 and project specifications.
  • Verify welding procedures, welder qualifications, and material compliance.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols.
  • Monitor joint preparation, fit-up, and welding techniques.
  • Perform or coordinate non-destructive testing (NDT) as needed.
  • Document inspection findings and prepare detailed reports.
  • Communicate discrepancies and corrective actions to project stakeholders.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and site-specific requirements.

Essential Skills

  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification is mandatory.
  • Strong understanding of welding processes and welding inspections.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents and welding symbols.
  • Familiarity with AWS D1.1 and other relevant codes.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Current OSHA 10 certification is highly preferred.
  • Experience with structural steel inspection in large-scale construction projects.
  • Knowledge of NDT methods and inspection tools.
  • Current CCS Card (Coalition of Construction Safety) – assistance provided if needed.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying conditions.

Work Environment

The work environment is based on a large-scale construction project for a new campus in Lebanon, IN. It involves working outdoors in varying conditions, with potential opportunities in other locations such as Terre Haute, and Louisville, KY. The job requires local candidates or those willing to relocate without relocation assistance.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lebanon, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
