This role is critical in ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical outcomes. The ideal candidate will assist in all phases of surgical care, including preoperative preparation, intraoperative assistance, and postoperative support.Key ResponsibilitiesPreoperative:Review patient history, surgical plans, and relevant documentationPrepare and maintain a sterile surgical fieldAssist in positioning and prepping the patientEnsure all surgical instruments and supplies are available and sterileCollaborate with the surgical team to plan the procedureIntraoperative:Assist the surgeon with exposure, retraction, and visualization of the operative siteControl bleeding through clamping, ligating, and cauterizationHandle tissues, assist with suturing, and perform wound closureOperate suction, irrigation, and other surgical instrumentsSupport minimally invasive and robotic procedures when applicableMaintain awareness of patient condition and support surgical flowPostoperative:Apply dressings and assist in patient transfer to recoveryEnsure accurate instrument and sponge countsDocument procedures and intraoperative observationsAssist with postoperative care and wound managementQualificationsEducation:Associates or Bachelors degree in a healthcare-related fieldCompletion of an accredited Surgical First Assistant programLicensure/Certification (one required):Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA)Physician Assistant (NCCPA certified)Nurse Practitioner (board-certified with surgical/first assist training)Experience:Minimum 2 years of experience in a surgical settingScrub experience preferredSkills & CompetenciesStrong knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, and aseptic techniquesExcellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordinationStrong clinical judgment and decision-making abilityAbility to perform effectively in high-pressure environmentsExcellent communication and teamwork skillsWorking ConditionsExposure to blood, bodily fluids, and infectious diseasesProlonged standing and use of surgical attire requiredOn-call availability, including nights, weekends, and holidays, may be requiredBenefits$10,000 Sign-on Bonus401(k) with company matchMedical, dental, and vision benefits (eligible after 30 days)24 days of paid time off in the first yearLong-term disability and life insurance optionsApply Today!Join NurseAmerica and make a meaningful impact by providing high-quality, compassionate care to patients while advancing your nursing career.Not for you?
