Job Title:  Certified Pharmacy Technician

 

The Certified Pharmacy Technician is responsible for assisting in the dispensing of outpatient medications to Springfield Clinic patients.

 

Job Relationships

  • This position reports directly to the Director of Pharmacy.

 

Principal Responsibilities

  • Enter prescriptions into the Liberty system.
  • Troubleshoot prescription issues with Insurance companies and Liberty support staff.
  • Take copayment from patients and deposit daily.
  • Maintain cleanliness of Pharmacy area and related equipment.
  • Properly handle and dispose of hazardous drugs and waste materials.
  • Conduct routine medication inventories and assist with inventory control of medications.
  • Assist in ordering supplies and medications. Receive and restock medications.
  • Maintain any necessary QA logs, including but not limited to inventory logs, remittance statements, cleaning logs, temperature logs, and others.
  • Participate in training and orientation of new employees as needed.
  • Technician will be expected to cross-train to cover for Chemotherapy Admixture Technicians.
  • Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures.
  • Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy.
  • Provide excellent customer service and adhere to Springfield Clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

 

Education/Experience

  • High School graduate or GED required. 
  • Minimum one (1) year of IV chemotherapy compounding experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum two (2) years of retail pharmacy experience is required.

 

Licenses/Certificates

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board is required.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Skilled in entering prescriptions into Liberty system is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of chemotherapy medications and their usages is required.
  • Ability to efficiently operate a standard office equipment including a personal computer, computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel), telephone, fax machine, and any other operating system utilized for this position is required.

 

Working Environment

  • Physical demands include sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, stretching, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
