DoveLewis Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital is seeking a Certified or Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our Neurology Service at our nonprofit specialty and emergency teaching hospital in Portland, Oregon.
This is a rare opportunity to work alongside four board-certified neurologists and an experienced specialty team while supporting advanced neurology cases—from seizure management and spinal trauma to complex neurosurgeries such as hemilaminectomies and craniotomies.
Our neurology technicians play a central role in patient care, anesthesia, and advanced diagnostics using state-of-the-art technology, including a 64-slice CT and brand-new 3 Tesla MRI.

What You'll Do
As a Neurology Veterinary Technician, you will provide high-level nursing care and technical support for complex neurological patients.
Responsibilities include:
• Monitoring and managing anesthesia for advanced imaging and neurosurgery
• Assisting with neurosurgical procedures, including hemilaminectomies and craniotomies
• Supporting advanced diagnostics using 64-slice CT and 3T MRI
• Performing medical calculations, medication administration, and in-house lab work
• Placing and maintaining tubes, catheters, and IV access
• Monitoring neurologic patients during hospitalization and ensuring patient comfort
• Communicating updates and education to clients regarding their pet’s care
• Collaborating closely with neurology specialists, ECC teams, and other specialty departments
This position requires strong technical ability, adaptability, and a deep respect for the human-animal bond.
Compensation
Certified Veterinary Technician: $28 – $36 per hour
Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS): $38 – $44 per hour
Additional compensation:
• 10–15% weekend differential for applicable shifts
Schedule
Our Neurology service is expanding and multiple schedule options may be available.
Typical schedule:
• Four 10-hour shifts per week
• One weekend day per week (either Saturday or Sunday)

What We're Looking For
We are seeking technicians who are passionate about practicing high-quality specialty medicine and contributing to a collaborative teaching hospital environment.
Preferred qualifications include:
• Certified / Licensed / Registered Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, RVT) or equivalent credential transferable to Oregon
• 2+ years experience in veterinary medicine as a technician or assistant
• 1+ year experience in neurology or another specialty service preferred
• Experience supporting surgery and anesthesia, including higher-acuity patients
• Strong teamwork, communication, and patient advocacy skills
• Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
