The Group Fitness Instructor is tasked with leading diverse group exercise sessions tailored to various experience levels, interests, and requirements across Aquatic Fitness, Cardio, Dance, Strength, and Wellness categories. With a focus on safety, enjoyment, and positivity, instruction aims to enhance member wellness and foster engagement, aligning closely with the policies and procedures of the City of Coppell.

At this time, we are specifically seeking instructors with experience in yogaand wellness-based formats. Ideal candidates will be comfortable leading a variety of classes including Balance and Strength (50+), Core Flex, Meditation/Stretch/Foam Roll, Stretch and Recover, Yin Yoga, Yoga Flow, Hatha Yoga, Power Vinyasa Flow, Yoga 360, and Yoga Mix.

The Yoga Instructor will create a welcoming and inclusive environment for participants of all abilities, offering modifications and progressions as needed while promoting proper alignment, mindfulness, and overall well-being.

Scheduling Commitment

Group Fitness Instructors work year-round, averaging 5–10 hours per week, not to exceed 20 hours per week. This position requires a flexible schedule, including daytime, evening, and weekend availability, with additional hours as needed for CORE events and meetings.


Essential Job Functions
  • Models Coppell’s Core Competencies and Champions Coppell’s Culture.
  • Curate and facilitate participants in tailored group exercise sessions.
  • Fosters positive connections with class participants through the delivery of engaging and challenging group fitness sessions.
  • Educates participants on proper form and offers alternative movements during workouts.
  • Attentively listens to members, addressing inquiries, and engaging in meaningful conversation before and after class.
  • Maintains cleanliness, safety, and organization of the facility and equipment and class space before, during, and following each group fitness session. Promptly notifying leadership of damaged equipment.
  • Curates current and motivating music playlists for classes while ensuring content is appropriate.
  • Actively promotes sessions, programs, and services with an emphasis on encouraging participation in group fitness opportunities.
  • Ad Hoc Tasks: Undertakes additional tasks as requested or required to contribute to the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the Community Experiences Department.

Experience
Required
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Passion for fitness and a commitment to a healthy lifestyle.
  • Current Accredited Fitness, Personal Training, or Group fitness-related certification.
  • Current Adult CPR Certification is required.
Preferred
  • Current First Aid/AED Certification is preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge
  • Knowledgeable in techniques and dynamics of Group Exercise.
  • Knowledge in a variety of Group Exercise classes.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology is crucial for creating safe and effective exercise programs.
Skills
  • Skilled in attentive listening.

  • Skilled in effective communication, with the ability to foster positive connections, address inquiries, and engage in meaningful conversations.
  • Skilled in proficient teaching and guidance of participants through engaging and challenging group fitness sessions.

Abilities
  • Ability to act as a fitness resource for class participants, maintaining positive relationships with participants to encourage continued class attendance.
  • Ability to maintain required certifications for continued employment.
  • Ability to create engaging group exercise sessions.
