We are looking for experienced CDL professionals who would like to take their CDL experience into a full time career as a CDL Instructor.
Job Overview
The CDL Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality training to students in preparation for the Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) exam. This includes instruction in classroom settings, on the training range, and during on-road driving sessions, all in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) guidelines. The goal is to ensure students are well-prepared to pass the CDL examination and begin successful careers as professional drivers.
POTENTIAL OVERTIME AND SHIFT DIFFERENTIAL
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Complete mandatory “Methods of Instruction” training for new instructors.
- Deliver curriculum-based lessons to groups in classroom or online environments.
- Instruct students on range-based maneuvers using structured “backing plans.”
- Conduct on-the-road training sessions, teaching shifting and operational skills.
- Evaluate student progress and provide constructive feedback.
- Identify and support students who need additional coaching through one-on-one instruction.
- Administer and grade written and practical examinations.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and class rosters.
- Respond to student questions and actively engage in tutoring and motivation.
- Uphold school policies and always ensure a safe learning environment.
- Report any equipment issues or defects promptly
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Must meet state, federal, and accrediting body requirements for instructors.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience operating Class A commercial vehicles.
- Hold a valid Class A CDL license and meet all DOT driver qualification file standard
PREFERRED
- Bilingual skills (especially English/Spanish) to support diverse student populations.
- Formal teaching or adult education experience, especially in vocational or technical programs.
