Case Manager — Medical Coding & Analysis for Civil Litigation

AccuMed HealthCare Research
Greenwood Village, CO

Somewhere right now, an attorney is preparing to argue that a client's $480,000 medical bill is reasonable. On the other side, another attorney is preparing to argue it's inflated by a factor of four. Both of them are waiting on us.

This is AccuMed. We sit in the middle of high-stakes civil litigation and deliver the facts about what medical care actually costs. We built a database containing over 1 million providers and 20 billion patient encounters that powers our analytics with unparalleled transparency. The work we do here carries enormous weight on the cases we work on and the people involved.

We’re looking for someone who's grown tired of the traditional coding role and wants to do highly rewarding, impactful work.

Why this isn't another coding job:

If you're a coder right now, you already know the rhythm. Same EHR, payer rules, denials, and appeals. If you’re reading this, you’ve likely reached your job’s ceiling already.

Here's what's different here:

  • No payers. No denials. No appeals. You will never argue with an insurance carrier again.
  • Every case is different. Different injuries, different providers, different jurisdictions, different stories. The work doesn't repeat.
  • You work the case, not just the code. You'll partner directly with attorneys, paralegals, and our expert witnesses. You'll see these cases navigate depositions, mediations, settlements, and trials.
  • Upward mobility. We’re scaling quickly, the team you join today won't look like the team a year from now. Opportunities abound for those looking to grow.

What you'll actually do

  • Take in large, unstructured medical and billing record sets and impose order on them — separating, categorizing, and preserving the full record.
  • Spot what's missing, what's inconsistent, and what doesn't add up.
  • Extract and structure billing data into clean, analysis-ready form.
  • Reconcile billed charges against medical records and client billing summaries.
  • Apply AccuMed's coding methodology — independent of payer rules, focused on reasonable value of care.
  • Serve as the operational quarterback for our expert witnesses: managing case flow, surfacing details they need, coordinating every touchpoint between experts and clients.
  • Talk to attorneys and paralegals — clearly, confidently, and often.
  • Recommend the right product solutions for each client's case strategy.
  • Run your own caseload, manage your own deadlines, own your own outcomes.

Who thrives here

  • You get a thrill from creating order out of chaos.
  • You'd rather have a problem to solve than an easy day.
  • You're fast, but you'd never sacrifice accuracy for speed, and you can tell the difference.
  • You write clear, attorney‑ready emails without multiple revisions.
  • You enjoy collaborating with smart, engaged colleagues.
  • You are ready to move on from stalled promotion paths.

What we want to see

  • 2–4 years in medical billing, coding, revenue cycle, or closely adjacent work.
  • A coding or billing credential is great (CPC, CPB, CIC, CPMA, CCS, CCA, CHDA; any of them) but a strong background and the right instincts matter more.
  • You can apply coding guidelines to a closed record with no provider to call and no payer rules to lean on.
  • You can set aside reimbursement-trained reflexes and work in a different framework.
  • Solid Excel, pivot tables, lookups, and structured data capabilities.
  • Bachelor's preferred; equivalent experience absolutely considered.

What it pays

$65,000 – $80,000 annual salary based on experience and credentials, plus:

  • Health, dental, vision
  • 401(k) with match
  • 15 days PTO + company holidays
  • Summer Fridays (Memorial Day through Labor Day)
  • Phone stipend
  • WFH Wednesdays

On the office thing — straight up

We're in-office four days a week because this work is genuinely better when we're together. You'll learn faster sitting next to senior case managers. Our experts grab us between calls. Attorneys ping us mid-deposition. The collaboration is the job, and remote-only would compromise it.

If you've been fully remote and that sounds like a step back, we hear you. The trade-off is real work, real mentorship, real exposure, and real career trajectory in a field where almost nobody can train you from a Slack channel.

Our culture, in plain terms

Four values: humility, honor, positivity, engagement. We mean them. We hire for them.

In practice, that means we value progress over ego—mistakes are owned, support is offered without prompting, and collaboration comes first. We work hard, enjoy each other’s company, and take our responsibilities seriously, with even greater respect for one another.

Where this is headed

We have been focused on this niche for years, and the market is responding. The team you would join today is significantly larger than it was a year ago—and it will be larger still a year from now. Case Managers who join at this stage grow into roles with expanding opportunity, including clear progression from Case Manager to Senior Analyst and into positions that directly support expert witness work. Early contributors gain the greatest leverage in that growth. This is a company on a strong upward trajectory. We prefer to state that simply and let the results speak for themselves.
