MajorDuties

  • As a Supervisory Geographer/Cartographer within the National Geospatial Technical Operations Center (NGTOC), some of your specific duties will include: Directs, supervises, and motivates a professional workforce of geospatial specialists in the planning, investigation, testing, prototyping, development and implementation of emerging technologies and capabilities for improving the value, quality, and efficiency of National Geospatial Program (NGP) products and services. Provides administrative support to projects and personnel within the Branch: employee counseling, performance management, awards, job related training, planning and coordination, etc. Recommends changes in the structure of the Section for greater efficiency of operation, assigning employees to positions within the Branch, and shifting personnel in response to changing workload and priorities. Serves as Acting Chief, Applied Research and Technology Branch, when designated Performs planning, budgeting, and oversight for numerous applied research projects in support of The National Map. Works closely with internal and external stakeholders to include NGP Product and Service Leads, and NGP Enterprise Architecture staff to develop annual and long-term Applied Research objectives and requirements, and to develop and coordinate a program of work to meet those goals. Works closely with NGTOC Operations, Systems Development Branch, and IT management to ensure collaboration and coordination to achieve an effective and efficient implementation of new capabilities, and to sustain current capabilities. Ensure that section staff collaborates with personnel at all levels of the NGTOC and NGP to identify and resolve issues and deficiencies in current operational capability and to identify, plan, and implement new operational capability. Works with the Center of Excellence for Geospatial Information Science (CEGIS) to understand research direction and opportunities for transitioning research results into NGTOC operational capability. Maintains contact with external partners, vendors, academic organizations, industry professionals, and other government agencies to coordinate the transfer and application of new technologies. Serves as a technical advisor and geospatial subject matter expert to the Branch Chief for Applied Research and Technology and to NGTOC and NGP staff and management. Keeps abreast of the state-of-the-art specifications and guidelines on new developments and changes as they pertain to the section for the increased variety of new map products and digital data. Continually assesses NGTOC products, systems, and procedures and recommends improvements or new technologies and capabilities. Serves as a representative on governance boards comprised of internal and external stakeholders and communicates relevant Applied Research and Technology issues, strategies, and decisions among the Branch, Section, and Board members. Provides oversight and guidance for the development and publication of NGP geospatial data standards.

Requirements

Key Requirements: Applicants must be U.S. Citizens. Suitable for Federal employment, as determined by background investigation. This position requires completion of a one year supervisory/managerial probationary period, if one has not previously been completed.
