Purpose:
Perform an assortment of carpenter duties with wood, metal and building materials; construct and/or maintain furniture, fixtures, structural and architectural parts of the hospital.
Responsibilities:
- Perform rough and finished carpentry, i.e., build millwork, construct casework.
- Construct and maintain structural and architectural woodwork, equipment and fixtures.
- Perform any maintenance work required in which skills can be utilized.
- Adheres to the Basics of Service Excellence in all interactions with clients and the public.
- Perform all work following infection control procedures.
- Responsible for setting-up appropriate level of infection control containment (ICRA) based on risk level and maintaining the integrity of that containment.
- Record personal work orders and submit hours on a daily basis.
- Operate powered woodworking machinery such as lathes, saws, sanders, power actuated tools, etc.
- Maintain clean and safe work area, equipment rooms and shop areas.
- Repair furniture, windows, floor or structural and architectural woodwork by measuring, sawing, squaring, fitting, sanding and nailing, or other processes where articles require closely fitted parts.
High School diploma or equivalent is required. Completion of an industry recognized three-year apprenticeship program in carpentry or, equivalent on-the-job training, plus two additional years experience as a journeyman carpenter. Must be skilled with the use of all woodworking tools. This training includes such skills as blueprint reading, shop arithmetic, knowledge of strength of materials and their characteristics. Knowledge of building codes is essential.
