Job Title: Carpenter

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled carpenter to contribute to remodel and new construction projects at U of I Hospitals and other U of I facilities. Additionally, there will be opportunities to work on smaller commercial projects within the area. The carpenter will be responsible for overseeing tasks such as drywall repair, cabinet installation, fireproofing, ceiling tile installation, wood cutting, floor plank installation, caulking, mudding, and door hanging.

Responsibilities

  • Tear out and repair drywall using hand and power tools.
  • Install cabinets, fireproofing, and ceiling tiles.
  • Cut wood and install floor planks using a saw.
  • Perform caulking and mudding tasks.
  • Hang doors and manage door installation.
  • Run caulk guns for fireproofing.
  • Patch drywall primarily above ceilings.
  • Demolish old caulk and apply new materials.
  • Perform light block laying and prepare materials.

Essential Skills

  • 2+ years experience in finish carpentry: trim, doors, windows, hardware, etc.
  • Proficient in drywall, carpenter, and framing work.
  • Experience with steel frame, finish carpentry, door installation, framing, blueprint reading, power tools, metal studs, trim carpentry, doors, windows, and hardware.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 1 year of residential or commercial carpentry experience.
  • Tool pouch must be provided by the candidate.
  • 1 year of experience installing tiling, drywall, or cabinetry.

Work Environment

The work environment features a laid-back, family atmosphere, primarily at U of I Hospital, focusing on remodeling and new construction with small crews of 2-3 people. The hospital provides a temperature-controlled setting with mostly lightweight tasks, though patience is required due to strict rules. Dress code includes jeans, boots, and the person (provided by the client). Work hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tiffin, IA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
