Key duties

  • Lead and direct the Cargo work unit under the Manager's direction. Assume overall responsibility for the work unit in the absence of Management.
  • Provide direction to Lead Customer Service Agents, Warehousemen, and Customer Service Agents, including Safety and Security. Perform duties of Lead Customer Service Agent, Cargo Customer Service Agent, and Warehousemen as required.
  • Make, carry out, and document decisions to ensure efficient operation and protect Company interests.
  • Liaise with other work units, Ground Handling Companies, and contracted Governmental and Airport Authorities.
  • Coordinate routine administrative tasks and operational requirements, including planning/calling of overtime.
  • Observe workflow and assign/reassign tasks to Leads, Warehousemen, and Agents. Assign daily lunch/breaks consistent with the collective agreement and work unit requirements.
  • Perform on-the-job training and lead formal training classes. Ensure all agents maintain a high level of proficiency in their roles.
  • Investigate incident reports and local accidents, complete necessary forms, report findings, and recommend actions.
  • Maintain records and statistical data; provide information as requested. Perform administrative duties when requested by the Manager or Administrative Assistant.
  • Oversee ATL Freighter Operations with a flexible schedule, including weekends.

Qualifications

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and aerodrome driver's license and a current passport;
  • Ability to lift seventy (70) lbs unaided;
  • Ability to fulfill all the duties of a Customer Service Agent, Lead Customer Service Agent & Warehousemen;
  • Possess or can quickly acquire the skills to perform the duties of both Lead Customer Service Agent and Warehouseman, either simultaneously or independently, as required by the station;
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities;
  • Ability to use tact, good judgment and initiative;
  • Ability to work under pressure with a minimum of supervision;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Possess strong problem-solving skills and have the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks at one time;
  • Expected to be proactive and show strong organizational skills—able to coordinate tasks and lead team efforts constructively and in a non-threatening manner;
  • Ability to keep Day Trades and Shift Trades to an absolute minimum;
  • Ability to be extremely flexible to accommodate flight/freighter schedule;
  • Adhere to Air Canada's uniform guide and grooming standards;
  • Demonstrate punctuality and dependability to support overall team success in a fast-paced environment;
  • Candidates must be available for shift work in a 24/7 operational environment, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays;
  • Ability to meet Air Canada medical standards through a medical examination
  • Employment is subject to meeting US Custom & Boarder Protection (USCBP) requirements for obtaining both a Customs Seal and an Airport ID Badge;
