Job Summary
The Cardiac Device Technician supports the evaluation, monitoring, and management of implantable cardiac devices, including pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs), and cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) devices. This role performs device interrogations, analyzes diagnostic data, and collaborates with physicians to support appropriate device function and patient care. The Cardiac Device Technician contributes to accurate documentation, patient education, and effective coordination of care across the clinical team.
Essential Functions
- Performs in-clinic and remote interrogation of cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) to assess device function and patient status.
- Analyzes device data, including arrhythmias, battery life, lead performance, and diagnostic trends, and communicates findings to providers.
- Assists with device programming and adjustments under physician direction.
- Monitors remote device transmissions and manages follow-up schedules to ensure timely review and intervention.
- Documents device evaluations, findings, and interventions accurately in the electronic medical record.
- Educates patients on device function, home monitoring equipment, and follow-up care requirements.
- Collaborates with physicians, clinical staff, and device representatives to support patient care and device management.
- Identifies and escalates abnormal findings or device concerns to appropriate clinical staff.
- Supports inventory management of device-related equipment and supplies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Cardiovascular Technology, Nursing, Biomedical Technology, or related field preferred
- 1-3 years of experience in cardiac device management, electrophysiology, or cardiac monitoring required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of cardiac electrophysiology, arrhythmias, and implantable cardiac device function.
- Skill in operating device interrogation systems and interpreting diagnostic data.
- Ability to recognize abnormal findings and escalate clinical concerns appropriately.
- Strong attention to detail in documentation and data accuracy.
- Effective communication skills to support collaboration with clinical teams and patient education.
Licenses and Certifications
- BLS - Basic Life Support required
- CCDS - Certified Cardiac Device Specialist preferred
