This position supports the workspace needs for staff located at all SPU’s 32 workforce facilities (in city and regional, owned and leased spaces). This work involves all aspects of workspace management including furniture requests, moves, space planning and reconfigurations, and remodels. Examples of duties include:

  • Manages a large portfolio of workspace requests and projects, and serve as a project manager for large, complex capital projects.
  • Works closely with staff across the utility and three lines of business, division directors, deputy directors, SPU Leadership Team, and the SPU Executive Team as well as the Department of Finance and Administrative Services and Information Technology Department.
  • Hires and manages vendors, consultants, and contractors through all design and construction phases.
  • Verifies accuracy of product and service invoices.
  • Approves payments to vendors/contractors.
  • Plans complex capital improvement projects by preparing necessary documents, providing description of project objectives, participant responsibilities, project description and project methodologies.
  • Develops and manages project budgets, scopes and schedules and tracks project using SPU’s Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) System.
  • Monitors and evaluates project construction and costs to track progress and ensure compliance to specifications and budgetary restrictions.
  • Prepares reports, correspondence, advertisements and official documents and gives presentations.
  • Develops and presents clear technical documents, proposals, and presentations.
  • Develops and implements communications and change management plans.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience:Minimum of four (4) years of project or construction management or related experience.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Business Administration, Urban Planning or related field.

Experience and Education Equivalency:Combinations of appropriate education, training, certification, and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability to the minimum education and experience requirements.

License, Certification and Other Requirement:Current Washington State driver’s license or evidence of equivalent mobility.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with workspace management type work (furniture requests, moves, space planning and reconfigurations, and remodels).
  • Experience leading work on cross-functional teams or matrixed organizations where coordination with various stakeholders were required.
  • Familiarity using systems to manage service requests and work orders and track capital project performance.
  • Knowledgeable about public works contracting and government procurement processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering design documents including plans, specification, and engineering reports.
  • Experience with continuous improvements and change management in a workspace environment.
  • Successful at solving problems in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Strong customer service skills.

Workplace Environment: Theemployee in this position will be required to come into the office five days a week, Monday - Friday. Individual schedules will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor.


The full salary range for this position is $64.17 - $74.86 per hour.
