Position: CAD Engineer
Company: Defense and Commercial Unmanned Aerial Systems
This role is built for a hands-on, detail-oriented engineer who thrives at the intersection of design, prototyping, and real-world manufacturing. You will play a key role in bringing advanced aerial platforms and payload integrations to life, from concept through production.
What You'll Do:
- Design and iterate mechanical parts and assemblies using CAD tools
- Prepare models and files for manufacturing, including CNC, sheet metal, and fabrication
- Operate and maintain in-house 3D printing for rapid prototyping
- Develop complete Technical Data Packages (TDPs) with detailed drawings and tolerances
- Collaborate with systems, aero, and production teams to ensure performance, fit, and structural integrity
- Coordinate with external vendors to produce high-quality components
What We're Looking For:
- Strong proficiency in Onshape and/or SolidWorks (or the ability to ramp quickly)
- Experience with additive manufacturing and preparing print-ready files
- Proven ability to create manufacturing-ready documentation and TDPs
- Background working with external vendors for CNC machining and custom fabrication
- Solid mechanical aptitude and a bias toward getting things built
Nice to Have:
- Experience in Unmanned Aerial Systems, drones, or aerospace platforms
- Understanding of aerodynamic design, weight/balance constraints, or CFD
- Exposure to composites (carbon fiber, fiberglass) and advanced manufacturing
- Payload integration experience (EO/IR, radar, telemetry systems)
- Familiarity with advanced propulsion or power systems (hybrid-electric, hydrogen, solar)
- CNC machining or toolpath programming experience
