The University of Virginia Advancement Analytics team supports strategic fundraising and engagement efforts across the University. By leveraging data, analytics, and business intelligence tools, the team partners with Advancement leadership, prospect managers, and development officers to drive informed decision-making and maximize philanthropic impact.

Position Summary

The University of Virginia is seeking a Business Intelligence Analyst to support data-driven fundraising and advancement strategies. This role is responsible for transforming complex data into actionable insights that inform prospect development, campaign performance, and engagement initiatives.

The Business Intelligence Analyst will play a critical role in analyzing the UVA prospect pipeline, building data visualizations, and delivering strategic reporting to Advancement leadership. This position requires strong analytical skills, the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly, and experience working in higher education or nonprofit analytics environments.

Responsibilities

  • Turn broad data streams into actionable information for Advancement leadership, prospect managers, and development officers
  • Analyze the UVA prospect pipeline to provide insights that drive fundraising activity
  • Perform strategic data review and analysis through reports and data extracts using SQL, Tableau, and other BI tools
  • Translate data analysis into insights that inform business processes and decision-making
  • Design and develop comprehensive data visualizations and dashboards to assess portfolios, pipelines, and campaign performance
  • Review and monitor prospect and proposal pipeline data through audits, extracts, and ongoing partner communication
  • Provide reporting and analysis support for campaign progress, annual giving, and engagement initiatives
  • Serve as a technical resource and mentor to colleagues on the Prospect Management & Research team
  • Represent Advancement Analytics through presentations and training for stakeholders
  • Contribute to ad hoc analytics and prospect management projects
  • Develop reporting methodologies that integrate data from multiple sources and complex constituent databases
  • Stay current on economic conditions and philanthropic trends impacting higher education
  • Communicate complex analytical findings clearly, accurately, and concisely
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize effectively, and meet tight deadlines
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Bachelor’s degree required

Experience:
5+ years of relevant professional experience required

Licensure:
None

Experience must include:

  • Data manipulation and analysis
  • Data visualization and dashboard development
  • Working with stakeholders to deliver business insights that drive performance
  • Quantitative and qualitative analysis

Any combination of education, training, and/or experience will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in higher education environments
  • Experience in nonprofit BI/analytics, particularly within advancement or fundraising
  • Familiarity with fundraising, advancement, or constituent engagement data
  • Experience with SQL, Tableau, or similar BI tools

Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary position involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

Salary Range

$89,000 – $93,000 annually

Position Type & Work Location

  • Full-time, benefited position
  • Remote; however, the role requires travel to UVA Grounds approximately four times per year (once per quarter)Work location: 2420 Old Ivy Road, Charlottesville, VA 22903
  • This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship
