Business Analyst (Warehouse Operations)

Summary:

The Business Analyst plays a critical role in optimizing parcel shipping costs, carrier service performance, and overall customer experience within a high-volume logistics environment. This role combines advanced data analysis with carrier strategy, solution implementation, and customer-facing communication. The ideal candidate is highly analytical and confident, with the ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable business insights.


Leadership Responsibilities:

  • This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities
  • May provide guidance and subject matter expertise to cross-functional teams


Duties and Responsibilities:

Data Analysis & Modeling

  • Build and maintain advanced Excel models analyzing parcel rates, zones, dimensional (DIM) rules, surcharges, and landed costs
  • Perform savings analysis, scenario modeling, and contract impact assessments
  • Analyze large datasets from shipping systems, carrier invoices, and client data
  • Develop dashboards and reports using pivot tables, Power Query, and advanced formulas


Carrier Performance Monitoring & Reporting

  • Monitor carrier performance including transit times, on-time delivery, exceptions, claims, and billing accuracy
  • Track compliance against SLAs and contractual commitments
  • Identify trends, root causes, and improvement opportunities
  • Prepare and lead performance review meetings with customers and carriers


Parcel Carrier Strategy & Negotiation

  • Support and participate in negotiations with parcel carriers
  • Evaluate pricing structures, surcharges, and operational alignment
  • Assist with RFP analysis and carrier selection processes
  • Validate savings and performance improvements post-implementation


Solution Implementation & Optimization

  • Lead or support onboarding of new parcel carrier solutions
  • Coordinate with Operations, IT, and carriers during implementation
  • Validate system configurations such as rating logic, zone mapping, and service rules
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities


Customer-Facing Engagement

  • Participate in customer meetings, including MBRs and QBRs
  • Translate complex data into clear business insights and recommendations
  • Support sales and account teams with data-driven strategies
  • Build strong relationships through effective communication


Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Operations, Finance, Sales, and Account Management teams
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on parcel cost drivers and carrier behavior
  • Support strategic and operational decision-making through data analysis


Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, Power Query, complex formulas; VBA a plus)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to explain complex data to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment


Education and Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in business analysis, logistics, or supply chain roles


Preferred:

  • Experience working with parcel carriers and contract analysis
  • Knowledge of zones, dimensional weight (DIM), and surcharge structures
  • Experience monitoring carrier SLA performance
  • Familiarity with WMS or shipping platforms
  • Background in e-commerce, 3PL, or parcel consulting


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit and work on a computer for extended periods
  • Occasional movement within office or warehouse environment as needed
  • Ability to travel occasionally for customer or carrier meetings (if required)
