Job Description:
The Business Intelligence Consultant is responsible for leading the analytical functions specific to one of the following business functional areas: Clinical/Hospital Operations, Member Experience, and Quality. The Consultant will work with Business Owners, Project Managers, and other "Requesters" of data to translate requests into clear and actionable conclusions.
This involves many tasks including the facilitation of tasks to understand the objectives of the business owner, retrieval of data, organization of data into information, interpretation of data and its meaning and the conclusion of business directives derived from the analytical activities. Additionally, the Consultant must manage multiple analytical requests at one time.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Act in a coaching/mentoring role for Analysts and/or Data Delivery Specialists.
- Oversee analytical and reporting services within their scope of work.
- Serve as a data Subject Matter Expert (SME) to consult with business owners on the data itself.
- Support departments and interdisciplinary groups by facilitating the acquisition of data and information needed to drive regional and operational decision making and process improvements.
- Actively participate as a project team member.
- Obtain, analyze, organize, and interpret data into actionable findings, recommendations, and conclusions.
- Facilitate report production or data process development required to meet business needs.
- Maintain a broad spectrum of knowledge regarding business processes and underlying systems and data sources.
- Perform duties with minimal to no supervision.
Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with business partners to identify and gather detailed business requirements; create technical documentation and translate specifications into data solutions.
- Master complex software packages to perform SQL programming and relational query writing across datasets.
- Apply database design knowledge within data warehouses and other data sources to improve processing efficiencies.
- Lead reporting projects including scope, design, development, and implementation in partnership with subject matter experts.
- Use analytical tools such as Tableau, Power BI, SAS, Python, and R to deliver solutions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Support compliance and adhere to the Principles of Responsibility (Code of Conduct), ensuring privacy, confidentiality, and regulatory compliance.
- Access protected health information (PHI) only as necessary to perform job duties.
Education:
- Minimum:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Information Systems, Business, Statistics, Accounting, Management, or related field.
- Preferred:
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
Work Experience:
- At least 6 years of related experience in reporting and analytics (preferably in healthcare).
- At least 5 years of SQL or other coding experience (SAS, R, Python).
- 5+ years managing analytical requests and delivering insights to leadership.
- 5+ years using tools such as Tableau, Power BI, SAS, Python, and R.
- Understanding of medical terminology including diagnosis and procedure codes.
- Experience translating workflows into data requirements.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to work with leadership and deliver high-priority projects.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Epic certification in Clarity or Cogito.
- Knowledge of healthcare industry analytics (Clinical/Hospital Operations, Member Experience, or Quality).
