About the role The Peoria Journal Star is seeking a Building Technician to keep production moving and equipment running at its best. As a Building Technician you will troubleshoot, repair, and maintain a wide range of production equipment-including printing presses, packaging equipment, and conveyors. What you'll do
Troubleshoot breakdowns and repair production-related equipment quickly and safely.
Own your work with limited supervision-complete assigned work orders and essential tasks.
Perform preventive maintenance (PM) to reduce downtime and keep equipment performing reliably.
Communicate clearly with maintenance managers, production managers, supervisors, and peers to resolve issues and keep work moving.
Create detailed shift reports to document progress, repairs, and open items for the next team.
What we're looking for
High school diploma or equivalent.
Apprenticeship, military, or vocational education in a mechanical/electrical/electronic field or a combination of education and experience equivalent to 4 years (preferred).
3-5 years of recent maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment (preferred).
Experience in the newsprint industry and with printing equipment (helpful).
Basic electricity and electronics (helpful).
Safe and professional use of basic hand tools and shop equipment (required): drill motors, drill press, tool post grinders, band saws, etc.
Pneumatics, hydraulics, and refrigeration (helpful).
Arc and gas welding (helpful).
Ability to fabricate and/or modify parts (helpful).

Provide excellent customer service in all circumstances; take initiative and be responsible/self-directed.
Team-oriented with the ability to work productively with peers under limited supervision.
Practice safe work habits, including use of MSDS and lockout/tagout procedures.
Ability to work a flexible schedule as business needs arise, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Occasional overtime required based on business needs.
Ability to climb ladders, work in elevated conveyor areas, and lift/carry up to 30 lbs.
