Overview
The Salvation Army’s Springfield Corps., is hiring a Bridging the Gap Counselor and offers the following benefit package to part-time employees:
Location: 170 Pearl Street, Springfield, MA
Hours/week: 15 hours per week; Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (1pm to 6pm)
Exemption: Non-exempt
Pay Range: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour
*starting pay varies depending on experience and qualifications*
To assist the BTG Coordinator with the Bridging the Gap program.
Duties & Responsibilities:
a) Help plan and assist Bridging the Gap Curriculumb) Review lesson plans and offer input c) Attend weekly staff meetingsd) Attend at least one group per week as an observer e) Discuss each participant’s progress with BTG Coordinator and internsf) Maintain a document of all participant’s addressesg) Advocate for participants where necessary.h) Talk to participants as required/neededi) Handle and teach teens at Bridging the Gap with varying personal backgroundsj) Attend training sessions as requiredk) Coordinate with area colleges and graduate programs to recruit interns and volunteers.l) Represent The Salvation Army’s social mission in the Bridging the Gap programm) Refer persons with spiritual needs to The Salvation Army Corps Officern) Perform other related tasks as assigned by supervisorQUALIFICATIONS
Education Requirements:
A college student, preferably a college graduate
Work Experience:
Must have some a minimum of 1 year experience working with young adults
Other Qualifications:
Ability to work with disadvantage youth is a definite plus
Must be knowledgeable about outside referral services
Must be at least 21 years of age
