Position Overview

Mystic Valley Regional Charter School seeks a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Biology Teacher to join our Science Department. The successful candidate will deliver engaging and rigorous biology instruction to students in Grades 7–12 while fostering scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and a deep understanding of the life sciences.

Instruction is aligned with the Core Knowledge curriculum and methodology. High school teaching assignments may also include coursework within the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme, one of the world's most respected college-preparatory curricula.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality biology instruction to students in Grades 7–12.
  • Implement the school's science curriculum in accordance with Core Knowledge and, when applicable, International Baccalaureate (IB) standards.
  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons with clear, measurable learning objectives.
  • Design and facilitate laboratory investigations, experiments, and hands-on learning experiences that reinforce key biological concepts.
  • Assess student learning regularly through a variety of formative and summative assessments.
  • Provide timely feedback to students and families through progress reports, report cards, and other communications.
  • Utilize assessment data to inform instruction and support student growth.
  • Maintain a structured, safe, and productive classroom and laboratory environment.
  • Ensure the proper use, storage, and maintenance of laboratory equipment and materials.
  • Collaborate regularly with colleagues in the Science Department to strengthen curriculum, instruction, assessment practices, and student outcomes.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development activities, and school events.
  • Uphold the school's academic, behavioral, and professional standards.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related scientific field required.
  • Strong content knowledge in biology and the life sciences.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze student performance data and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish positive and productive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
  • Experience developing and implementing laboratory-based instruction preferred.
  • Massachusetts teaching licensure is preferred but not required.
  • Successful completion of applicable MTEL examinations within one year of employment.
Reporting Structure

This position reports directly to the Science Department Chair and is subject to annual performance evaluation.
