Job Title: Bilingual PhlebotomistJob DescriptionThe Bilingual Phlebotomist provides expert support in blood collection and specimen preparation, ensuring high-quality, accurate samples while minimizing discomfort for patients across a wide range of ages and backgrounds. This role combines strong technical phlebotomy skills with clear communication, attention to detail, and a commitment to safe, compliant laboratory practices.
Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and other blood draws accurately and efficiently, using straight needles and butterfly needles as appropriate.
- Collect and store blood, urine, fecal, and other specimens according to established procedures and protocols.
- Explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process clearly and courteously to patients to help them feel at ease.
- Match laboratory requisition forms or computer-generated labels to specimen tubes, ensuring that all information is 100% accurate.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by specific test orders and protocols.
- Store specimen samples at the required temperature and place them in the appropriate collection containers or tubes to maintain specimen integrity.
- Package specimens correctly for transport, following all procedures necessary to preserve sample quality.
- Fully understand and interpret physicians’ orders to ensure proper specimen collection and processing.
- Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts or orders to confirm accuracy before processing.
- Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures as required in the work area.
- Update and maintain accurate patient information in the appropriate systems or records.
- Answer telephone calls in a professional manner and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries as appropriate.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and follow all safety and infection control procedures.
- Wear appropriate attire and personal protective equipment as required for safe specimen collection and processing.
- Attend annual department trainings to maintain current knowledge of procedures, regulations, and best practices.
Essential Skills- 2–3 years of hands-on experience drawing blood in a clinical or laboratory setting.
- Proficiency in phlebotomy techniques, including venipuncture with straight needles and butterfly needles.
- Demonstrated experience with blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging, and specimen processing.
- Ability to collect and process specimens from diverse patient populations, including pediatric patients.
- Strong administrative skills and high attention to detail in handling orders, labels, and patient information.
- Ability to clearly explain procedures to patients in a courteous and professional manner.
- Understanding of and compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations related to specimen collection and laboratory safety.
- Ability to accurately match requisition forms and computer labels to specimen tubes and test orders.
- Skill in using bilingual communication to support patients and staff effectively.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Experience reading and relaying laboratory results over the phone to address inquiries.
- Familiarity with specimen storage requirements, including temperature control and proper packaging for transport.
- Comfort working with pediatric patients and adapting communication style to different age groups.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple specimens, orders, and tasks throughout the day.
- Willingness to attend annual department trainings and stay current with procedural updates and regulatory changes.
- Interest in a role that involves in-state travel and working in different locations.
Work EnvironmentThis is a full-time role with core hours from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., including rotating Saturday shifts from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The position does not require work on holidays or during vacation periods as specified. The work takes place in clinical and laboratory environments where phlebotomy and specimen processing are performed, and it may involve in-state travel and working in different facilities, offering variety and a change of scenery. The role requires the use of standard phlebotomy and laboratory equipment such as needles, collection tubes, centrifuges, and specimen storage units. Appropriate professional attire and personal protective equipment are required at all times to maintain safety and compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations. The environment is detail-oriented and patient-focused, with regular interaction by phone and in person to support patient care and laboratory operations.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
