Job Duties:

The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services (DHS) seeks an experienced individual who has customer service skills, billing knowledge, and the ability to multitask and work independently. The candidate will be responsible for timely and accurate billing and collections for assigned third party payers including Medicaid, MCO’s, Medicare, and commercial insurances.

Duties:

  • Will preview the following payers based on the weekly schedule: Medicaid and the MCO’s for Outpatient services; United Health Care Commercial and Medicare Advantage, all Tricare, Cigna Commercial and Medicare Advantage, United Behavioral Health, and Medicare.

  • Send reminders for CAQH re-attestation needed.

  • Assist with Accounts Receivables after the weekly claims have been submitted.

  • Knowledge of Medicare rules and regulations to be billed weekly.

  • Accurately perform duties with minimal supervision.

  • Effectively maximize fee revenue and have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Minimum Requirements:

MINIMUMS: Requires a High School Diploma or GED and three (3) years of experience in a clerical accounting related field utilizing the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required to meet operational needs. Alpha I Status: Positions within this class have been designated as Alpha I positions requiring employees to work during inclement weather, regardless of the City's operational status.

Preferences:

One (1) or more years’ experience with Behavioral Health/Medical billing insurance carriers
Experience with Microsoft Office using Outlook and Excel, creating spreadsheets and formulas
One (1) or more years’ experience with electronic Behavioral Health/Medical Accounts Receivables
Experience using Web Portals for Health Insurance in regard eligibility/claims/denials
Experience with applying state, federal, and 3rd party claims processing and collection guidelines
