The Role:

The Pastry Cook is responsible for preparing and baking a variety of desserts, pastries, breads, and other baked goods in accordance with established recipes and standards. This role ensures high quality, presentation, and consistency while maintaining cleanliness and food safety standards in the pastry station.

Key Responsibilities:

· Prepare and bake pastries, desserts, bread, and other baked goods according to recipes and specifications.

· Measure and mix ingredients using mixers, blenders, heat sources, and other kitchen equipment.

· Decorate pastries and desserts to ensure an appealing presentation.

· Assist with menu development by testing and recommending new dessert recipes.

· Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pastry station and baking areas.

· Ensure proper storage of ingredients and finished products to prevent spoilage.

· Follow all food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards as set by local health codes.

· Communicate effectively with the culinary team to coordinate production schedules.

· Monitor product quality and consistency, making adjustments as needed.

· Assist in inventory management by reporting low stock levels of ingredients and supplies.

· Support other kitchen staff as needed, including cross-training when required.

Based upon fluctuating demands of the operation and to exceed customer expectations, it may be necessary to perform a multitude of different functions not specifically related to this position. This person may be expected to perform other tasks and duties as needed or as directed.Furthermore, employee responsibilities andjobdescriptions are subject to review and revision.

Experience and Qualifications:

· Strong understanding of baking techniques, pastry preparation, and presentation.

· Familiarity with food safety regulations and sanitation standards.

· Knowledge of basic culinary math and ingredient measurements.

· Understanding of kitchen tools, commercial mixers, ovens, and baking equipment.

· Excellent baking and pastry production skills.

· Strong attention to detail for consistent quality and presentation.

· Time management and organizational skills to meet production deadlines.

· Ability to follow recipes accurately and adapt to menu changes.

· Skilled in multitasking in a fast-paced kitchen environment.

· Work independently and collaboratively within a team.

· Stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.

· Adapt to changing priorities and kitchen needs.

· Ability to communicate clearly with team members and supervisors.

· Availability to work flexible shifts, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays.

· 1–3 years of experience in a pastry or baking role (hotel or upscale restaurant preferred).

· Culinary or pastry school certification is a plus.

· Food Handler’s Certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
