The Association Director of Teen & Youth Programs provides strategic and operational leadership for youth and teen programming across the YMCA of Greater Rochester. This role oversees the development, implementation, and growth of programs including Youth and Government, teen leadership initiatives, and youth engagement programs.


The Director is responsible for ensuring high-quality, safe, and impactful programming that supports youth development and fosters leadership, civic engagement, and healthy lifestyles. This position builds strong relationships with schools, community partners, volunteers, and families, while developing staff and ensuring alignment with YMCA standards and mission.


This leader ensures the safety and well-being of members, participants, staff, and volunteers and supports high-quality program delivery aligned with YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction for association-wide teen and youth development programs, including Youth and Government, leadership clubs, and youth engagement initiatives.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve programs that promote leadership development, civic engagement, and positive youth outcomes.
  • Oversee program operations to ensure high-quality, safe, and inclusive environments that meet YMCA standards and all regulatory requirements.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and develop staff and volunteers, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with schools, community organizations, government agencies, and volunteers to expand program reach and impact.
  • Lead and support Youth and Government programming, including student leadership development, curriculum planning, and preparation for state conferences and events.
  • Manage program budgets, monitor financial performance, and identify opportunities for revenue growth, grants, and scholarships to support access and sustainability.
  • Ensure effective program administration, including registration, recordkeeping, compliance documentation, and communication with participants and families.
  • Promote programs through marketing, outreach, and community engagement efforts to increase participation and awareness.
  • Coordinate logistics for events, competitions, travel, and conferences, ensuring compliance with YMCA safety and operational guidelines.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety, risk management, and adherence to YMCA policies, including emergency procedures and child protection standards.
  • Serve as a key liaison for participant, parent, school, and community concerns, ensuring responsive and high-quality service.
  • Collaborate with association and branch leadership to align youth programming with strategic goals and community needs.


Requirements

· Bachelor’s degree in education, recreation, or related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.

· Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in youth development, teen programming or related field.

· Miminum of 3 years of supervisory and leadership experience.

· Demonstrated experience working with teens, youth leadership programs, or civic engagement initiatives.

· Strong knowledge of child safety, youth development best practices, and applicable regulations.

· Experience managing budgets, grants, or program funding preferred.

· Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

· Ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders including staff, volunteers, schools, community partners, and vendors.

· Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, and travel as needed.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general technology platforms.

· CPR/AED and First Aid certification required or ability to obtain within required timeframe.

· Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.

· Willingness and ability to travel regularly between YMCA locations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

· Ability to supervise children and teens by sight and sound at all times.

· Ability to remain active, including standing, walking, and moving for extended periods.

· Ability to lift up to twenty pounds as needed.

· Ability to travel between program sites and attend off-site events or conferences.
