Position S ummary a nd O rganizational R elationship: The Associat e Professor of E ducation reports to the D ean of Humanities , Social S ciences, an d Fine Arts . Required Q ualifications: Requir ed qualifications t o effectively per form j ob. A n equivalent c ombinati on of e ducation, t raining, an d experienc e will be considered. •Mas ter’s degree in education. •Five or more years teaching at the elementary, secondary or post -secondary level. •Strong understanding of assessment on the course and program level. •Strong understanding of pedagogy, current educational theory, and current educational trends. •Strong understanding of federal and state statutes governing education. •Able to meet requirements for teaching certification, including background check. •Strong communication and organizational skills. •Ability to work effectively within a departmental structure and with other faculty in the design and implementati on of learning opportunities, curriculum, and assessment. •A clear understanding of and commitment to the philosophy and goals of a community college. Pre ferred Qualifications: •A doctoral degree in education. •Experience teaching post -secondary education courses. •Experience designing courses and curricula. •Experience designing and teaching online courses. •Experience mentoring student teachers (teacher candidates). •Ability to relate well to students from a wide variety of religious, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. •Current teaching certification. •Academic advising experience with education majors . E ssential Functions: •Teach a variety of in -person and online courses to fulfill a minimum requirement of 30 adjusted load hours per academic year or the equivalent ; up to six adjusted load hours of overload per semester may be required . •Mai ntain a minimum accountability week of 35 hours on campus (including five posted office hours) for teaching, advising, helping students, recruiting, preparing curriculum, and other instructionally related activities. •Participate in coordination and supervision of secondary and elementary education programs . •D evelop and t each education courses, advise majors, supervise student teachers, and coordinate observation , pr acticum, and clinical experiences. •Represent Eastern Arizona College at professional events. •Assist in preparation and management of a program budget and p urchase necessary program resources an d mat erials within permitted guidelines .• Participate in departmental administrative activities, including student recruitment , and advising. • Cultivate and maintain professional relationships with high school programs , educators, college professors, and community organizations in the college’s service area and region. • Serve on institutional committees and perform other duties as assigned.
