Associate of Science in Nursing Faculty (Full-Time)

POSITION SUMMARY

Faculty in the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) program assist the Director in the implementation of program and student learning outcomes. They assist in the development, revision, and implementation of curricula which is grounded in an evidence-based practice model. Faculty provide classroom lectures, supervise students in the laboratory and clinical settings, and administer standardized testing. Student advisement and mentorship are also provided throughout the matriculation process. Faculty are required to have knowledge of the nursing unit, to be an integral member of the Nurse Faculty Organization (NFO), and to serve an/or chair a nursing standing committee. It is also an expectation that all faculty maintain currency in their respective areas of teaching responsibility, as well as clinical competency.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide appropriate student supervision in the assigned didactic and clinical areas
  • Effectively deliver curricular content
  • Model team enhancing behaviors
  • Participate on nursing standing committees and the NFO
  • Serve as a role model for students in professional interaction with faculty, health care team members, and clinical facilities
  • Promote positive and productive relationships in the department, among faculty, and with area health care facilities
  • Maintain relationships with clinical sites and professional peers that support the reputation of the University and the nursing programs
  • Assist in the scheduling and confirmation of use of clinical sites
  • Participate in curricular development, revision, and change
  • Develop course examinations
  • Improve teaching skills by seeking new knowledge and maintaining currency in professional competencies
  • Maintain a positive work ethic
  • Collect, record, maintain, and submit accurate class records
  • Keep student health information current
  • Serve as an academic advisor to an assigned group of students
  • Maintain student attendance records
  • Evaluate the progress of students in all classes
  • Prepare course syllabi, program outlines, handouts, etc.
  • Participate in graduation and pinning ceremony
  • Participate in recruitment and retention efforts
  • Provide input into the program budget
  • Participate in the selection and orientation of new faculty
  • Establish and revise policies on selection, admission, promotion, and graduation of students
  • Participate in maintenance and updating of the skills lab and other resources
  • Participate on campus committees
  • Assist the Director in the development, implementation, and evaluation of program outcomes and student learning outcomes

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Louisiana
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
  • 5+ years clinical experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong clinical and professional skills
  • Computer literacy

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2 years teaching experience in an academic or healthcare setting

COMPENSATION: $59,000 - $60,000 per year

TYPE: Full-time
