Associate Counsel, Legal Services - General Litigation

The Associate Counsel is responsible to represent the Company before city, state and federal courts, arbitral tribunals, private mediations, and administrative agencies in highly complex matters, and to supervise the handling of litigation and other matters by attorneys at and below the level of Senior Attorney.

Core Responsibilities
  • With limited supervision, perform and supervise others in the performance of litigation activities and other assigned matters involving the Company.
  • Conduct research and prepares legal memoranda for the courts.
  • Develop the facts through the interview of Company personnel and third parties, through document review, and through other fact-finding techniques, utilizing Company investigators and paralegals, where appropriate.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, and discovery demands/responses.
  • Participate in all stages of discovery, including but not limited to, identifying, gathering and analyzing documents, conducting depositions, and conducting site inspections.
  • Represent the Company at hearings and trials in cases involving greater complexity and exposure, as appropriate.
  • Assist in providing general legal advice to client organizations.
  • Prepare and argue motions.
  • Prepare briefs and present oral argument in state and federal appellate courts.
  • Appear and represent the Company at court conferences.
  • Select strategy for the overall handling of legal actions and proceedings and supervise other attorneys in the execution of tactical measures designed to achieve prompt and satisfactory resolution of litigated matters.
  • Assist the Associate General Counsel & General Attorney, the Associate General Counsel and/or the Assistant General Counsel in the supervision of litigation.
  • Assist the Associate General Counsel & General Attorney, the Associate General Counsel and/or the Assistant General Counsel in the training and supervision of junior attorneys in the handling of all legal matters, with special emphasis on cost-effectiveness and quality control.
  • Manage a caseload of cases involving greater complexity and exposure brought on behalf of or against the Company.
  • Provide any other legal service related to Company operations.
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments, as required.
