Associate, COO's Office

Tusk Holdings
New York, NY

Who we are.

Tusk Holdings sits at the nexus of tech, politics, and government and is Bradley Tusk’s family office that supports his endeavors and companies: Tusk Strategies, a political strategy consultancy; Tusk Ventures, advisory-for-equity for early-stage startups operating in regulated industries; Tusk Philanthropies, working to end childhood hunger; the Mobile Voting Project, bringing mobile voting to the United States.

About this role.

You'll sit in the center of the firm on the operations team and help support all our entities and initiatives. No day will be the same. You'll learn from your colleagues and from the job and develop deep expertise in everything it takes to make a company's inner-workings run. Your time will be split across technology, finance, human resources, and special projects. These special projects might range in scope from developing new AI strategies for our consulting team to working with Founder Bradley Tusk on a new project or initiative of his. This role is a one-year associate position with option to renew.

We'll be upfront: this role covers a lot of ground, and we don't expect any one person to check every box. If this sounds even remotely interesting to you, we'd love to hear from you. We may end up hiring two people depending on who applies, so don't talk yourself out of it.

Your qualifications.

  • Instinctive curiosity and a self-starter approach. You dig deeper on your own, without prompting.
  • Excellent EQ and communication skills.
  • Proven record of collaborativeness. The team is big and varied, and you need to be able to collaborate with everyone, making each stakeholder heard while also executing on the directives of the COO.
  • A love for fitting the puzzle pieces together. Any successful operator seeks to automate their way out of a job (don’t worry; there will always be more to do)
  • Superb organizational and project management skills: you get things done (and keep track of what you need to do).
  • Concise writing skills. You write well and clearly convey meaning.
  • Technological savviness. You’re good with computers, or you like to figure it out.
  • You know when AI output is good enough and when it isn't, and you're honest about the difference. You use these tools to move faster, not to avoid thinking.

Nice to haves.

Expertise is not expected for any of the below, but you should think “I could figure that out” for most, if not all, of the items listed below.

  • Spreadsheet skills; pivot tables, simple formulas, financial analysis.
  • SQL skills: either be able to write SQL or use AI to write simple queries (while understanding just enough to check its work).
  • An eye for design and graphics to create miscellaneous pitch materials and (squarespace or similar) websites for different initiatives
  • An interest in cybersecurity. You follow the news, and you understand (or are learning) that security is an ever-evolving balance between protection and usability.
  • Process improvement: you look at a process, no matter what form it takes, and you figure out how to improve and automate it.
  • An interest or experience with HR / PeopleOps HR admin systems.
  • Proven track record of managing up. You’re able to gently track what the leaders around you should be working on and can nudge them when something needs attention.
  • Gutsy negotiating skills. You’ll look a vendor in the eye and tell them they need to cut their proposal in half otherwise you won’t sign. And you’ll get them to actually do it.

What you’ll get from us.

  • 10% bonus on annual salary after successful completion of 6-month evaluation period.
  • 401(k) with 3% employer contribution on annual compensation.
  • 100% employer-paid premiums for individual medical, dental, vision coverage.
  • Unlimited vacation.

The pay range for this position is $65,000 - $85,000. Your salary will be commensurate with experience and compensation is negotiable depending on what you bring to the table.
