This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA. If the person selected is not affiliated with the AMEA Union, he or she must become a member in good standing within 31 days of beginning work.
This position is eligible for a five percent (5%) additional professional certification pay with a valid State of Alaska Professional Engineering (P.E.) License. Eligible candidates are required to provide evidence of the professional certification.
Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.

Reviews, researches, recommends approval, authorizes and gives written comments on, including but not limited to: plat reviews, rezoning and conditional use requests, ordinance amendments, public facility site plans, and building and driveway permits. Reviews are based upon conformance with municipal code regulations, design criteria standards, policies and procedures, and the principles and practices of traffic engineering, This position will also respond to public inquiries and has direct contact with the public. Coordinates projects in-house and with other agencies. Attends joint staff review and preliminary application meetings with developer and Platting or Building Safety staff to collaboratively resolve conflicting requirements. Represents Traffic Engineering at Platting Board, Planning and Zoning Commission hearings, and the Zoning Board of Examiners and Appeals. Resolves conflicting Code requirements collaboratively with planning, zoning, project management and engineering, and private development staff. Demonstrates knowledge of technical and legal (appellate court) issues related to land development. Perform other duties– including traffic safety evaluations of citizen and elected official concerns - as assigned.Engineer In Training Certificate or professional engineering registration and five (5) years of experience in traffic engineering or a related engineering or planning field, one (1) year of which must at the level of an Assistant Traffic Engineer I with the Municipality of Anchorage, or the equivalent elsewhere.All applicants must possess:
