The Department of World Languages and Cultures invites applications for a full-time, non­renewable (one-year) Assistant Teaching Professor position with a start date of August 10, 2026. This is a 9-month appointment.

The Department of World Languages and Cultures is one of 17 academic units in the College of Arts and Sciences. The vision for our College, aligned with the university's strategic plan, is to ensure that our students graduate career-ready to meet the world's challenges, and that our faculty research and creative activity contribute to the public good. We achieve this through robust collaboration across departmental boundaries, with particular attention given to increasing experiential learning for our undergraduate and graduate students and connecting our scholarly and creative work to the needs of our region. We are especially interested in recruiting candidates who can contribute excellence in teaching, scholarly/creative work,
and/or service toward achieving excellence throughout the university and to the greater community. The College is committed to faculty success, providing resources and support within the Dean's Office and through collaboration with Arts and Sciences departments and schools, leadership teams in other colleges, and university-serving partners such as the Center for Faculty Excellence. World Languages and Cultures focuses on human culture, history, language, philosophy, and the arts, exploring how people express themselves, communicate and make sense of the world. Program in Spanish: The design of Spanish is based on the integration of language, culture, linguistics and literature. Our course of study reflects the nature of our most important goal: we address the reality that Spanish is spoken by many different ethnic groups whose cultures, history, and customs modify and enrich these languages. Graduates of our undergraduate and graduate Spanish programs have been very successful in effectively holding positions in businesses, government agencies and schools.

Responsibilities also include providing service at the department level.
• M.A. in Spanish or related field ( e.g., Applied Linguistics, Hispanic Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, Education, etc).
• Experience teaching undergraduates at the elementary and/or intermediate levels in Spanish.
• Native or near-native fluency in both Spanish and English.
