JOB TITLE:              Assistant Swim Coach - Part-Time

DEPARTMENT:      Athletic Department 

REPORTS TO:        Head Swim Coach 

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The purpose of this position is to assist the head coach in the development and growth of the swim program at Dordt which will support the mission of the university, as well as bring a knowledge and passion of swimming to students, with a commitment to excellence and bringing glory to God.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Assist the head coach with planning and conducting swim practice and dryland training.

  • Provide technical instruction in stroke development, starts, and turns.

  • Support meet preparation, race strategy, and competition management.

  • Identify and communicate with prospective student-athletes.

  • Assist with recruiting visits and roster management.

  • Help with the coordination of team travel, meet logistics, and home meet operations.
  • Support student-athlete academic progress and personal development.

  • Assist with equipment, scheduling, and program administration.

  • Promote a positive, disciplined, and team-first culture.

  • Ensure compliance with institutional and governing body policies (NAIA)

  • Other duties as assigned by the Head Coach, Athletic Director.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • A clear understanding and commitment to the Reformed perspective and mission of Dordt University and ability to clearly articulate and communicate the mission effectively.

  • Ability to express an active Christian commitment, which shall include identification with a local organized church that holds to beliefs that are consistent with the mission of the university.

  • Understanding and commitment to the mission of Dordt University.

  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred, along with 1-3 years of related experience.

  • Knowledge of and ability to teach swimming skills and fundamentals.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with student athletes, athletic officials and all University’s constituents

  • Effective verbal and written communications skills

  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
