The Cordova Recreation & Park District is seeking an energetic and team-driven
Assistant Swim Coach to assist the Head Swim Coach for our Cordova Blue Marlins summer league team!We are dedicated to having fun over the summer, while still challenging ourselves to grow. It is the mission of the Blue Marlins to provide an opportunity for young people to develop swimming skills and positive competitive swimming experience.
Typical Schedule: Up to 30-40 hours a week, shifts from mid-March to September, mornings and afternoons including Saturday meets.
Summary DescriptionUnder supervision of the Recreation Supervisor II, Senior Recreation Coordinator, and Head Swim Coach, teach lessons, American Red Cross progressions, and/or assists in directing and supervising a recreational level competitive swimming program for youth ages 4 to 18 years old; organizes swimmers and instructs in skills and techniques, stressing an atmosphere of fun and maximum participation within agency and league philosophies; maintains all required paperwork; and follows rules set forth by the Cordova Aquatic Program; and performs related work as required.Who We Are

We provide quality recreational programs, parks and services for our diverse and growing region. We currently operate over 50 parks and facilities across more than 600 acres of urban and open space. We also operate Cordova Golf Course which is a full-service 18-Hole course with a lighted driving range, pro-shop and lessons from PGA professionals. We host dozens of events throughout the year and provide athletic, educational and creative outlets for children and adults of all ages.

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.- Assist in supervising the recreational level competitive swimming program; organize swimmers and instruct in skills and techniques; motivate and encourage all swimmers; collaborate with coaching staff to ensure goals for team are being met.
- Teach lessons and American Red Cross progressions as necessary.
- Ensure efficient and effective supervision of the pool and facility during respective team workout period.
- Set-up and take down required equipment for practices and swim meets; prepare entries for meets, with maximum participation as the primary consideration.
- Maintain discipline and control during workouts and at meets, through the enforcement of the pool rules.
- Promote and enforce safety procedures; render first aid and CPR as required.
- Coach and instruct children in techniques specific to the sport.
- Prepare practice and seed meets.
- Encourage all swimmers to attain their maximum potential.
- Perform related duties as required.

Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Two summers experience with similar programs, preferably as an experienced swimmer or as an assistant coach.
License or Certificate:Required to hold current certification in Lifeguard Training (which includes Standard First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and AED)
Additional Requirements:Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) background checks.A clear tuberculosis screening is required.Certification of completion in CDC HEADS UP Concussion Trainings for Youth Sports Coaches within the first thirty (30) days of employment required.Certification in First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22) within three (3) months of employment required.Certification in Emergency Oxygen within three (3) months of employment required.Certification in Lifeguard Training and Water Safety Instruction strongly desired.
