Job Description

This role offers an opportunity for an experienced construction professional to support the successful delivery of complex interior renovation projects, with a strong focus on healthcare facilities across the DMV area. The Assistant Superintendent will work closely with the General Superintendent and Project Managers to oversee field operations, manage subcontractors, and ensure high-quality project completion, including punch list activities. This position is ideal for someone with a background as a general or lead foreman or assistant superintendent who is eager to learn, grow, and eventually manage projects independently.

Responsibilities

  • Support the General Superintendent and Project Managers in day-to-day management of interior renovation projects from start to finish.
  • Oversee and coordinate field activities on complex healthcare and commercial interior renovation projects.
  • Manage and supervise subcontractors to ensure work meets project specifications, quality standards, and schedule requirements.
  • Assist with planning and sequencing of work to maintain efficient project progress and minimize disruptions.
  • Conduct regular site walks to monitor work quality, safety compliance, and adherence to project plans and specifications.
  • Lead and coordinate punch-out and closeout activities, ensuring all deficiencies are addressed and completed in a timely manner.
  • Communicate effectively with project teams, subcontractors, and on-site personnel to resolve issues and maintain project momentum.
  • Support enforcement of safety policies and procedures on site, leveraging OSHA 30 knowledge to promote a safe work environment.
  • Help track project progress and report field conditions, issues, and updates to the General Superintendent and Project Managers.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth, with the goal of developing into a project leadership role.
Essential Skills
  • At least 6 years of experience in construction.
  • Proven experience working on interior renovation projects, preferably in commercial settings.
  • background in commercial construction with a general contractor or similar environment.
  • Hands-on experience with interior commercial renovation, including coordination of trades and finishes.
  • Strong subcontractor management skills, including scheduling, supervision, and quality oversight.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise field activities and support overall site management.
  • Knowledge of OSHA 30 safety principles and ability to promote a safe jobsite.
  • Ability to read and understand construction documents, plans, and specifications related to interior renovations.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills when working with project teams and subcontractors.
  • Motivation to learn, grow, and take on increasing responsibility in project management.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience on complex healthcare renovation or construction projects.
  • Prior experience as a general foreman, lead foreman, or assistant superintendent.
  • Familiarity with the unique constraints and coordination requirements of working in occupied or operational facilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities on fast-paced projects.
  • A proactive, detail-oriented approach to quality control and punch list management.
  • Interest in long-term career growth into full project management or superintendent roles.
Work Environment

This is a fully on-site role based on active project locations in Washington, DC, and Northern Virginia. The Assistant Superintendent will spend the majority of time in the field on interior renovation job sites, including complex healthcare and commercial environments. The work involves regular interaction with subcontractors, project teams, and facility stakeholders in a dynamic, fast-paced construction setting. Standard construction-site attire and appropriate personal protective equipment are required. The position offers exposure to a wide range of interior renovation projects and provides a strong platform for professional growth into broader project management responsibilities.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Washington, DC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.90 - $36.10/hr.
