Serves as the Assistant Resident Construction Engineer. Assists with ensuring projects are properly staffed. Supervises field engineers and technicians to ensure minimum sampling and testing requirements and quality assurance specifications are met. Verifies construction activity is properly documented by field inspectors and engineers. Verifies quantities measured for payment to the contractor are accurate. Assists with survey verification. Monitors assigned projects, ensuring compliance with contract plans and specifications. Ensures all construction-related right-of-way agreements are followed during construction. Assists the Resident Construction Engineer (RCE) with contract administration. Reviews and processes contractor submittals. Assists the RCE with project closeout. Meets with contractors concerning construction related issues. As a representative of the SCDOT, assists with resolving construction conflicts and ensures the interests of the Department are clearly communicated and protected in the process. Assists the RCE with miscellaneous office management tasks, human resources management, ensures a safe and productive work environment, etc. Attends preconstruction conferences and other meetings on behalf of RCE as required. Performs other related duties as assigned. A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and three (3) years of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
Physical Requirement: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. This position may require travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. This position required driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.
