Macdonald & Company is partnered with an active affordable housing developer expanding its development team to support a growing California pipeline.


This is an opportunity for an Assistant Project Manager to gain exposure across the full development lifecycle while supporting senior development leadership on multiple affordable housing projects throughout California.


The Role

The Assistant Project Manager will support 2-3 projects at a time and assist with various aspects of development, including:


  • Assisting with project financing efforts, including LIHTC applications, soft debt financing, project-based vouchers, and other affordable housing funding sources
  • Supporting entitlement and permitting activities by coordinating with municipalities, consultants, agencies, and housing authorities
  • Coordinating due diligence efforts and assisting with the review of loan documents, partnership agreements, and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Supporting construction oversight through coordination with the in-house general contractor, consultants, and project stakeholders
  • Assisting with housing authority coordination and project closeout activities, including transition to asset management and property operations
  • Maintaining project schedules, budgets, reporting packages, and development documentation
  • Tracking project milestones and helping ensure timely completion of development objectives


Platform Overview

  • Ground-up affordable housing developments across California, with active concentration in Riverside County, Orange County, and Santa Barbara
  • Projects typically range from 80 to 200+ units and are often developed in multiple phases
  • In-house general contractor, third-party property management, and a lean development team offering direct exposure to ownership and senior leadership


Qualifications

  • 1-5 years of experience supporting affordable housing or multifamily development projects
  • Exposure to LIHTC financing, affordable housing programs, or other real estate development activities preferred
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Excellent communication and coordination abilities across internal and external stakeholders
  • Proficiency in project tracking, documentation, and reporting
  • California affordable housing experience preferred
