The University of St. Thomas (UST), a private Catholic University committed to the liberalarts and the religious and intellectual tradition of Catholic higher education, located inHouston, Texas, near the vibrant central business district, Texas Medical Center, andmuseum district, is seeking applicants for a full-time Assistant Professor of Politics who
will also serve as a Core Fellow in the Division of the Core and Centers for Excellence in theSchool of Arts and Sciences. Core Fellows form the nucleus of the permanent teachingfaculty dedicated to the undergraduate Core Curriculum, which operates as a distinctdepartment in the Division.


Applicants should share the Core's vision of-and commitment to-a classical liberaleducation in the Catholic Tradition. Core Fellows teach particular academic subjects in
their own right, but from a philosophical perspective and with an eye to the interrelationsacross the core curriculum. More information about the Core Curriculum at the Universityof St. Thomas can be found at https://catalog.stthom.edu/core-curriculum.

Interested applicants should possess a terminal degree at the time of appointmentin Political Science or a related field. A chief requirement is to teach the Politics andSociety core class- an introductory course on the political and social order with anemphasis on the American context, presenting theories and their real-life application.Themes include natural law, civil rights and civil liberties, and forms of social andeconomic organization. A knowledge of Catholic Social Doctrine is also preferred.

A record of teaching excellence is required; competence to teach undergraduates in morethan one discipline, and a liberal arts or great books background, are both highly desirable.
