Assistant Professor of Nursing – Skills Lab & Simulation Coordinator

The Department of Nursing at North Carolina Wesleyan University is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Professor of Nursing – Skills Lab & Simulation Coordinator. This is a 10-month, paid over 12 months, full-time position, and the successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating clinical skills laboratory instruction, leading simulation experiences, and assisting with coordination of clinical placements for nursing students. This role ensures integration of theory into practice while maintaining high standards of clinical education and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

Skills Laboratory Instruction
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate clinical skills lab sessions.
  • Demonstrate and supervise nursing procedures in accordance with evidence-based practice.
  • Provide formative and summative feedback to students on clinical competencies.
  • Ensure safe use and maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Update lab content to align with curriculum and accreditation standards.
Simulation Facilitation
  • Design, implement, and evaluate simulation scenarios (low-, medium-, and high-fidelity).
  • Facilitate pre-briefing, simulation execution, and structured debriefing sessions.
  • Integrate simulation learning outcomes with course objectives.
  • Train faculty and adjunct instructors in simulation best practices.
  • Maintain simulation equipment and coordinate technical support as needed.
Clinical Placement Coordination
  • Identify, establish, and maintain partnerships with healthcare agencies.
  • Assist program director with organizing and scheduling student clinical placements.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist program director with coordination of preceptor assignments and support clinical instructors.
  • Monitor student clinical progress and address performance concerns.
  • Maintain accurate clinical records and documentation.
Teaching & Student Support
  • Teach courses as assigned by the program director.
  • Evaluate student performance using established assessment tools.
  • Mentor students in professional development and clinical practice.
  • Participate in curriculum development and program evaluation.
Administrative & Service Responsibilities
  • Serve on academic committees of the institution as assigned.
  • Participate in accreditation and regulatory reporting processes.
  • Engage in professional development and scholarly activities.
  • Contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

Education

  • Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) required.
  • Doctorate in Nursing or related field preferred.

Licensure & Certification

  • Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of North Carolina.
  • Certification in simulation education (e.g., CHSE) preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 3–5 years of clinical nursing experience.
  • Prior teaching experience in nursing education preferred.
  • Experience with clinical coordination and healthcare partnerships preferred.
  • Experience using simulation technology and debriefing methodologies preferred.

Salary range: Competitive.
Anticipated start date – August 1, 2026.
