This position is a joint appointment between the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and the Department of Teacher Education and Leadership Studies. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in mathematics, mathematics education, or education; engaging in appropriate scholarly activity; and contributing to department, college, and university service. The departments seek an exceptional faculty member with a strong commitment to teaching, research, and service to the University, the community, and the profession. They are especially interested in candidates who are passionate about working with undergraduate and master’s-level students, particularly those preparing to become future teachers.

Plans, organizes, teaches, and provides feedback to promote and direct student success. Responds to students in a timely manner. Communicates with students, departments, and university officials via university provided tools and resources.

Work Schedule: Typically, Monday through Friday, including some evenings, and the possibility of some weekend days.

Sponsorship and/or Work Authorization Status:Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis


Minimum Qualifications:A PhD in mathematics, statistics or mathematics education, or a master’s degree in mathematics or a related field with completion of a PhD in mathematics, statistics or mathematics education by the end of the first year of the appointment. Candidates with a PhD in progress will be offered a Degree Completion Appointment as a Lecturer while completing the terminal degree. Upon completion of the degree, the faculty member shall be assigned the rank of Assistant Professor and issued a tenure track appointment at the beginning of the following academic year. If the applicant does not have a master’s degree in mathematics or a related field, evidence of an earned PhD in mathematics, statistics or mathematics education is required. Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.


Preferred Qualifications:Evidence of excellent teaching and commitment to conducting scholarly research. Preference will be given to candidates with research or interest in mathematics education, particularly at the K-12 level, have at least three years teaching experience at the K-12 level, and possess a mathematics teaching license.


Physical Requirements:In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this position will perform sedentary work.


Sedentary:work involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs may be defined as Sedentary when walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other Sedentary criteria are met.
