Job overview and responsibilities
The Assistant Manager – AO Ramp Services is responsible for the day-to-day operational management and oversight of Ramp Services activities for the Hub station including but not limited to safety, performance, customer service, employee enablement and the development and sustainment of a Core4 culture. This is an onsite role in Chicago at ORD.
Strategic Leadership
· Direct ramp operations, establish and execute performance standards foroperational excellence, execute our safety strategy
· Develop, implement/execute operational strategies to optimize aircraft turnaround times, process execution, SOP compliance, and manpower utilization
Team Leadership & Development
· Ensure all applicable departmental training is completed in a timely manner and coordinate development of additional training as needed
· Build a high-performing team culture focused on dignity and respect for each other, , accountability, and operational excellence
· Develop supervisors and frontline employees through coaching and interaction
Safety & Compliance
· Drive departmental safety oversight, proactive safety initiatives, and communication
· Eliminate safety threats through robust frontline communication and ensure all team members maintain focus on safety excellence
· Ensure exceptional safety compliance as well as execution of all security protocols required by United Airlines, airport authorities, government agencies, and FAA/DOT
· Plan, coach, and safely execute all departmental operations
Operational Excellence
· Provide strategic oversight of applicable areas of operations to include: bag room, baggage execution, planeside, TOB and other airport operational areas
· Lead and execute department-level planning for irregular operations, weather events, and peak travel periods
· Achieve operational performance metrics including Turn Compliance Index (TCI), local and transfer bag execution, mishandled bag ratio (MBR), Bags to Claim, and D:0
Qualifications
What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
· Associate Degree or 2+ years of relevant professional experience
· 1+ years of leadership experience
· Demonstrated success in people management, decision-making, and goal-directed leadership
· Strong problem-solving skills with ability to apply continuous improvement methods and process identification / execution
· Familiarity with Airport safety and operational procedures
· Familiarity with a driven data-driven operational environment
· Effective management of unionized workforce
· Excellence in team leadership and mentorship
· Commitment to promoting a safe working environment
· Ability to manage 24/7 operations with onsite presence, ability to work any shift, extended hours and, weekend work
· Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship
· Ability to drive in AOA zones and pass all required training, security/background, and postal checks
