The Engineering Services Department is looking to fill an Assistant Engineer vacancy in our Transportation Division.
THE POSITION
LAND DEVELOPMENT & TRANSPORTATION DIVISIONThe Transportation Team consists of one (1) Engineering Technician, one (1) Assistant Engineer, one (1) Associate Engineer, and one (1) Traffic Engineer. Reporting directly to the Associate Engineer, the Assistant Engineer position supports the Transportation division by performing a variety of field and office tasks.
The Transportation Division is responsible for the operation of the City’s traffic signal network and implementation of the Traffic Management Center, updating traffic signal timing, coordinating with the Land Development Section on new developments and traffic impact analysis, working closely with the Project Management/Project Delivery, and managing all traffic inquiries from the public.
The Assistant engineer will assist in conducting a variety of engineering traffic studies; conduct radar speed surveys, analyze and evaluate traffic collision data. Manage traffic concerns and traffic calming requests, review traffic control plans, process oversize vehicle permits, assist the public counter for traffic related matters.
Your responsibilities will include the following:- Assist in conducting a variety of engineering traffic studies.

- Analyze and evaluate traffic collision data.
- Providing technical engineering support for traffic engineering projects and studies.
- Performing a variety of field and office duties in support of the City’s Transportation Section.
- Preparing staff reports for City Council.
- Exercising sound engineering judgement utilizing established guidelines, policies and best practices.
- Responding to and researching inquiries from the public, utilizing excellent customer service skills.
- May perform other duties as required to support the departmental objectives and operational needs.

Education and/or Experience:Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field and two years of progressively responsible professional experience in Civil Engineering or any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities.

Ability to perform professional engineering work, including project design; conduct inspections and evaluate construction relative to approved plans and specifications; coordinate the work of others involved in related activities; prepare and maintain records and prepare reports; interpret and apply related laws, ordinances and regulations; use a personal computer and software related to specific assignments; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
